Zerobricks Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 That looks nice and tough! May i ask why so high gearing? Quote
Sariel Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 May i ask why so high gearing? Seconded. I have used a vehicle of almost the same weight in a Truck Trial race with a single XL motor geared down 5:1, and it still had more torque than it needed. Seems like with the kind of a drivetrain you've used it should be able to push through walls. Quote
Sam42 Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Originally the chassis ran 1:5001 gearing and a single xl motor, with reduction only in the axles and a pair of 16t gears in the chassis to drop the drive down underneath the motors. When i put the 2nd motor in and added the (quite heavy) bodywork the 2 16t gears started skipping and grinding themselves to death, I find the newer style gearing less prone to skipping and more durable so i swapped the 2 16t gears to a 12t driving a 20t giving me a final drive of 1:8337. This does make the truck more than a little slow, however i can switch the portal axle gearing to 12:20 to give a final drive of 1:4632 for more speed if needed. Quote
Sam42 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Looking at the model in photos i realised it was a little too long, so i did a little fettling and came up with something i was happier with. Also the landy is now running a 1:4632 final drive. Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Good job! May I ask what is the function of the white rubber bands? Quote
Sam42 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Good job! May I ask what is the function of the white rubber bands? return to centre steering! if i'm honest they could do with being a little stronger to improve the function but it works... Quote
nico71 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 + + Truck Trial = Gear Powder :D Only if the truck is very heavy, more than 1kg5 I think. Anyway, I haven't broken any 12t SB on my lada and I have driven on a hard ground (including 45° slope). Also, It's important to concentrate the weight on the rear axle to reduce the stress on the front axle, but with a lot of weigh one the back, the climbing abilities is not very good, we have to find a compromise. :) Nice TT by the way ! Sam42 Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 (edited) Just an update really, i've added front and rear winches and added to the roll cage at the front, also the land rover's now powered by 3 pf receivers to up the power going to the drive motors, as mentioned on this forum before.. The chassis remains unchanged bar a little strengthening. Oh and yeah, those LA brackets do grind the gears a little but the main problem i have is snapping uv joints... i'm down to my last one! Brickshelf File oh yeah and mods could you change the title to Truck Trial Land Rover please?.. the mistake's really bugging me now.... Edited September 2, 2010 by Sam42 Quote
