alex54 Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I have bought the KK set ref 8777. And I discover a new color, the color of the rectangualr shield in very light grey. Does this color is used for other pieces? I thank that TLC would reduce the number of the different colors... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 13, 2006 Governor Posted March 13, 2006 Is this the shield you refer to? If so according to Peeron.com the colour is called Light Stone and this is the only set it comes in. For complete Peeron inventory of this set Click Here Quote
snefroe Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 i once had a 1 x 1 plate in very light grey, but i guess that was just a matter of bad production, not so much intentional... think we discussed that before... Quote
ApophisV Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 As far as I remember this color really exists. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 13, 2006 Governor Posted March 13, 2006 The colour must really exist otherwise why would Peeron.com classify it as Light Stone? Surely they wouldn't invent a name for a colour unless it appeared in more than one set. Or would they? Quote
Evil Willy Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Interesting..Hmm would it make for a god castle build if there were to be much more in production? possibly to replace bley, and look mre like stone. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 13, 2006 Governor Posted March 13, 2006 Is Light Stone an acceptable replacement for Old Gray? Do we have anybody here with that Light Stone experience that can comment on their experiences with the medium? Quote
Echo Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I wouldn't consider it a replacment for old light grey. Personaly, I don't think it can even be classified as a grey. More like off-white. Quote
jonfett Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I'm pretty sure that the colour 'Very light grey' as Bricklink calls it, came in one of the mosaic set. The 1x1 plate is the most common element made in that colour, a quick search on Bricklink should show you. I think this is still available to buy in packs from S@H for America at least. Jon. Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Seriously, you dont own a piece of "light stone"? Thats wierd, its on both the small newer KK2 shields and the octagonal ones... Or rather, its wierd it hasnt been discussed before, well, of what I know of. However, I dont like it at all- its hard to see its not white at first, but its a little grey-ish. I think it was a waste for Lego making a such a white like color on parts were light or dark grey (or bley) would fit better. They could've made sugarloaf helmets for those money wasted on an useless color that only appears on the last wanted place! >:-( Quote
john cleese Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 is this going to replace old grey!? ofcourse not. If you still have two different greys then models with both types are going to look less professional. Also the problem with Bley is its too light and has a blue tinge. I just dont understand what the point is in making more repulsive greys. Does the leg company have some sort of comitee just to find ways to anger AFOL's? Quote
Starwars4J Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I don't think anyone MINDS it, more just curious as to why it was made, but I guess it does look better than normal bley for a sheild... Quote
gylman Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 We can call it.... wait for it..... vley! Oy vley! *wacko* Oy bley! *n* Go gray! *y* Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 15, 2006 Governor Posted March 15, 2006 I don't think anyone MINDS it, more just curious as to why it was made, but I guess it does look better than normal bley for a sheild... For all the difference there is The LEGO Company might as well kept original light gray. Is this grey issue must be a hot topic - all these other threads in the forum and this one seems to have attracted the most attention in the shortest amount of time! Quote
snefroe Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 i certainly never bought any of the kk2... i got it from a sw set, think the snowspeeder, so i probably got it by accident... i wouldn't call it gray either. i think they just used too much white and not enough gray during the mixing procedure, leading to a color that's not white, but not gray either. it may "work" for a shield, but i doubt a wall in this color would look very nice... i don't expect lego to start changing the colors again. they were crucified when they replaced old grey by new grey. they'll think twice next time... Starwars4J Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 well, I'm sure you've noticed that AFOLs have been up in arms about the change in grey->bley moreso than any of the other color changes, especially brown-->bred/rown which is, imo, far worse. I think it's just because grey was so widely used in the first place. I'm slowly building up my bley collection, but it'll be awhile before it gets near my grey collection. Personally I don't think it's so bad if they had a small amount of this lighter color, and decided to use it sparingly in shields and whatnot. Probably this was a leftover prototype color from when they were developing the new grey, and instead of throwing it out, they just decided to use it. Quote
alex54 Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 well, I'm sure you've noticed that AFOLs have been up in arms about the change in grey->bley moreso than any of the other color changes, especially brown-->bred/rown which is, imo, far worse I totally agree with you! I didn't know that the brown has change when one day, my small brother has put two brown stairs together. And it was a "choc" for me! But it is less visible than grey, because I just have few pieces only in brown. Quote
Norro Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 The shade of grey you refer to (I think it's more white...) came in the mosaic sets. They also dumped a load in the spring cleaning (which is where I got my 20 odd representatives. On the brown, new brown: The new brown is terrible as trees but looks all right as interiors and most importantly doesn't clash with the old colours. My biggest complaint about the grey colour change was not the obsolete nature of my collection, but that the two couldn't be used together. God Bless, Nathan Quote
