Deinonychus Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 So, I'm new to this Brickshelf business so I need to ask these things... Are little comic-like series played out with LEGO Minifigs not-permissible on there? I recently started hosting images from my own little Minifig based comics off of brickshelf and I logged in today to find the entire folder missing. I mean, I've seen some real off-topic crap on there before so I figured my comic strips would be okay. guess not. Either that, or Brickshelf doesn't apreciate my sense of humor Good thing I have Photobucket too :-P Quote
Starwars4J Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Depends on what you posted them under. I've seen plenty of star wars minifig comics in the space section and they're fine. What was yours about? Quote

What was yours about? Don't remember exactly what I posted them under...but I was careful to modify the search string tags so that they wouldn't show up in the inappropriate section. As for what it's about...it's basicly a series where myself and some close friends from my personal board are represented by LEGO Minifigs and animals, and general inside-humor-based hilarity ensues. I don't think it would have been a content issue...I'd classify some of the jokes at the lower end of the PG-13 level ;-) Quote
Starwars4J Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Try re-posting it under "People" or "My Own Creations" then, not everyone's perfect, it might've been removed by accident Quote
ApophisV Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I had seen them and as far there were some "adult based jokes" in them, right? I actually don't think the Mods of Brickshelf look too close to the files they are uploading, as long as they can see some Lego or community related contents of the images they are uploading them. BUT: People hanging around there and looking at the recent pages can e-Mail them and asking them to remove particular things. And since some of them have really strict opinions of what one should see and what isn't good for the health of their brains such things often are deleted after some while. Best is to e-Mail to the BS staff and ask why (and which in particular) of your pictures weren't allowed... Quote
SuvieD Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I think someone was offended by the word vagina and requested the admins to remove the pictures. Brickshelf is used by people of all ages and also many parents helping there children post pictures. Though not a bad word many people have a problem with any reference to sexual organs and the non-sexual use or illustration pertaining to them. Just my thought. I had read them but a few were more eh than funny and I can see how someone could get offended. Quote

SuvieD Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 They made me laugh... :-$ Some of them made me laugh also. Others were not as funny because I don't understand the joke. Like if I said "I like buts." in a web comic it has little value. If I told you a story about an older teacher who, in the middle of a class of 16-18 year olds, used a sentence with the word 'but' in it and then after saying it paused and said "I like buts." You may think it is more humorous to picture an older gentleman standing in the middle of a bunch of teenagers saying I like butts. The humor is often based on the background. That is why comedians can take up the better parts of an hour just to deliver a few funny bits and a big punch line every ten minutes. So much of humor is in the setup which Dieno's comics lacked. Either way some wording could be offensive. Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Its all about the censor, as usual. My Lego comic (The Sorceror's Return) is very bloody and contains swearings, but its still allowed. Why? I do not go overboard. For example, the worst swearing in the story is "bloody hell", which isnt even considered a real one (watch Harry Potter movies) and the gore has some limit- no guts fly around and stuff. Sure, one of the character is a transexual, but its okay since Im not giving him/her an offending way to act. My comic, for those who has not seen it (no comments here please, keep it to the subject): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=128350 What has been buggering me is how Brickshelf will react on a coming scene with censored nudity, But I'll keep it as clean as possible still. As long as you keep the humour at an 11+ advisory, swearings down to medieval ones (or Lego-ish ones like "brick" and "megablocks") and from being too gory, its okay. Of course- there are other sites out there too, like the one Mattias uses for his Starwars comic: http://www.pbase.com/mistermattias/lego Quote

I had no bearings on what sort of content level was acceptable there (from my experience, a lot of young-friendly sites and forums hold a PG-13 limit) but now that I know, I'll just err on the side of caution and use Photobucket for that stuff from now on. I never really get very graphic or dirty or vile with my stuff like that, but neither do I place any constraints on what I think will work best while going for the joke X-D I had read them but a few were more eh than funny And that's why I never bothered posting them to here. If you're not familiar with the acting personalites or "in on the joke" they're not nearly as amusing. Quote
