DLuders Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) The Korean website BrickInside.com posted this interesting MOC by "Hayarobi" -- an unofficial set he named "9878 Chevrolet Pickup". Itg sports Power Functions elements, gullwing doors, opening hood and tailgate, a working engine, and lots of TILES to smooth out the hood and pickup bed. The original post (in Korean) is at http://www.brickinside.com/NeoView.php?Db=...amp;fmCategory= . You can see the detailed construction sequence from the 94 PICTURES provided, without needing to understand any Korean. I tried copying and pasting some of the Korean paragraphs into a free online translator (like http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt ), but the translation is tough to understand. Anyway, one can see some similarities to the official 8297 Off Roader 2 set (from which many of the parts came). Experienced TECHNIC builders may find that there are enough photos on the BrickInside webpage to recreate the MOC.... (Blakbird, here's another one to add to your long list! ) [NOTE: The picture links got "broken" , so I guess you'll have to go to the BrickInside site to see them all]. TechnicJuan Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 If you already own the 8297, there is no need to "Recreate" that thing. Quote
voltio Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Hayarobi deserves props for integrating studded System bricks with the studless liftarms in 8297. I particularly like the sloped bricks used to form the pickup bed, which looks extremely realistic. Plus, he seems to have pulled off a successful Power Functions modification of the chassis, which is much harder than most people imagine. Relocating the battery box underneath the truck bed is especially neat, since it hides an unsightly piece that was all too prominently displayed on the original design. That said, the lights on the roof are a little gaudy for my taste, and I think that the hood is too bulky. Perhaps some large curved slopes are needed to give the hood a more uniform shape, a technique used on the 4404 Land Busters truck from 2003. Quote
Blakbird Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 It's always interesting to see a modified model, and I'm a fan of combining Model Team and Technic. Most of the time, I find this is the most successful when the model looks like Model Team (a smooth, detailed construction) but has Technic functionality hidden inside. Some of M_longer's models are excellent examples of this (especially the Kenworth W900), and another of my favorite examples is the "US Truck" by Ingmar. In this case, the studded elements have just been put on the top of an existing Technic model. I like the result, but I don't find it as impressive as some of the other examples. There are others who have modified 8297 as well, and I think my favorite is this "pimped" version (in Dutch). Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Model looks a bit crowded to me. Does this Hayarobi-guy work for LEGO ? Or can everybody just use the LEGO-LOGO and a make up a set-nr for their moc's ? Quote
