Since this Eurobricks post IS for "LEGO Technic, Mindstorms & Model Team", I would imagine that the BIONICLE "pseudo-Technic" or "Technic-like" pieces could be used for robots. You may know that he BIONICLE theme is ending in 2010, so these kinds of parts may not be made anymore. There are dozens of unique & bizarre pieces that have been created over the years. SOME have the same type of holes (for axles and Technic pins) as TECHNIC liftarms, and their 3-dimensionality could be handy.

Does anybody use these BIONICLE pieces for Technic, Mindstorms, or Model Team MOCs? Would you CONSIDER using them?

I recently got the 8264 Hauler and the part TLG used for the engine looked bionicle like  I'm sure that bionicle parts can add something different to MOCs but I was really disappointed to see TLG using them in their own sets, especially instead of putting a functioning feature in the set.

I'm not a big fan of Bionicle in general and consequently have very few Bionicle parts. I think I have a single Bionicle set that I won as a prize in a build contest. Of course, some parts that were originally used only in Bionlce sets made their way into others, such as some of the racers sets from a few years ago, but I don't recall ever using any of the parts for my MOCs.

There's a single exception. I managed to get my hands on a fair few bionicle chain links. It is a very useful part, that I've used for the cargo hooks on my Chinook helicopter, for instance.

I'm curious to see what other people have used Bionicle parts for.

Cheers,

Boy, do I ever. Mostly because of their odd or useful shapes, but sometimes as decoration as well.

There are plenty more. One I like as well is this one: 32577.gif

And these are just a few. An additional bonus is that bionicle parts come in strange colors, so if you have a limited supply of (for example) dark blue, you could snap on some bionicle parts to add more.

Although my absolute favourite not-quite-officially technic part is still this:

I've been using it since 2005, and it remains useful to this day. Link to video of the part's use.

Sure!

Bionicle has provided us with lots of useful stuff for us to use when MOC'ing.

I have used all the parts mentioned above, except:

47734, "Bionicle Kanoka Disk Launcher (Vahki)" ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=47334 )

44033, "Bionicle Weapon Air Katana" ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=44033 )

In particular, generic parts like the Bionicle tooth x346, "Bionicle 1 x 3 Tooth with Axle Hole" ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x346 ) is rather useful:

The 41672, "Bionicle Bohrok Shoulder, Liftarm 1 x 3 x 7" ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=41672 ):

Me too. I used it as some kinda air scoop on my 8466 MOD 6 years ago:

And I used the 44136, "Bionicle Rahkshi Chest Section" ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=44136 ) in the front end of the chassis on my Veyron-like MOC, that is however some kinda old now:

I did use Bionicle items in some of the other MOCs I have made, for example in my Claas Xerion.

I can look it all up on Brickshelf: My Vehicle Folder on Brickshelf

That's very cool! It's clever how the spring is used, although I wouldn't have thought that spring was strong enough to pull back those big wheels.

Trust me, it is! I was sure this had been a technic part first, but I guess not. I used it for the base of one of my technic minis.

The spring box can work miracles for steering, but it can also overheat your motor.

Of the parts shown in the first post, I use quite a lot of them, but only the technic-ish ones. I would never use the foot, where does that come in to technic? But some of those pieces already are in technic, so... yeah!

Only if you keep running circles with it. Overheating it would require some significant effort. If this has happened to you, how the hell did you manage that?

I use few of them, like mahjqa, for their usefulness. They are quite good for delicate sections in the frame, or as a detail+ function part.

same situation here.

I use Bionicle parts pretty often although I do not own any Bionicle set. The Bionicle Tooth 1x3 is a very good part for head or tail lights of the car or these often help me to soften the gap between the liftarms. My favourite Bionicle parts is the blade that I used on my Berkut, Mantis, Podracer and Kinetic Horse.
