DLuders Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 The March 2010 Lego TECHNIC Challenge is to build an "Offroader" ( http://technic.lego.com/en-us/competition/default.aspx ). I know, I know, the competition is really for young people but if you submit a picture of your MOC, maybe The Lego Group will know what AFOLs like. Maybe they'll even make a special set (an "Off Roader 3"?) if they see some great creativity. Even if you don't build something NEW, you may have an existing Offroader MOC that you could quickly submit (one photo allowed with a short description). "Take the Technic Challenge - Offroader! This is the LEGO® Technic Challenge competition! - here you have a chance at showing the LEGO Technic designers your designs and your abilities with the Technic elements. "The competition is very simple 1. Build a model out of primarily LEGO Technic elements. 2. Take a picture of the model 3. Press the button below [on the webpage referenced above] to Enter the competition 4. Enter your contact information 5. Upload your image "What to build? This month (March) the competition is all about Offroading - build a model that can handle going offroad, a master of the terrain that can handle the hardest conditions! Sand, snow and outdoor environments can be hard on your LEGO® Technic elements, your model does not need to be pictured outside, but must fit into the Off-Road theme. "How does it work? Right now you can submit models - On the 15th of March - a panel of judges consisting of designers, marketing managers, building instruction artists and more will pick out (of all submissions) 10 finalists that will then be put up for voting here on the site. Considerations for the Nominees will be based on Model, Design, build to theme and age. "The winner will receive a prize and also continue to the Big Finale in October." I'm going to submit a TANK (even though TLG won't ever create such a set) -- it goes Offroad where no other vehicles can go and it's wicked. What are YOU going to enter? Quote
allanp Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) Well I really don't have much lego building time this month so I submitted an old MOC from pretty much childhood. I doesn't stand much chance but it fits the criterea I give you, the blue falcon http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=8627 Features include: Motorised via 2 old style 9v motors Heavy duty 5f+1r gearbox (can handle MASSIVE amounts of tourque). It is also quite efficient meaning it's internal friction doesn't use up much power from the motors. 4 wheel drive v8 engine Central differential (no axle differentials for improved off-roading!) Front and rear suspention via live axles Steering operated via drivers steering wheel can drive over lunch boxes and 8880 supercars (just!) in first and second gear reasonable speed in top gear Would love to see others people proper attemps at this challenge Edited March 7, 2010 by allanp Quote
DLuders Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 I give you, the blue falcon http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=8627 I like the "Blue Falcon" 4x4 a lot! The rare "Technic Power" power-puller wheels really sets it off. For those who like the old studded Technic bricks, this MOC really fits the bill. Quote

Thanks, I didn't have the power puller set, it had just come out at the time and Christmas was some months away so I called Lego and they sold me 4 wheels for £13. YEY! Quote
Sergiu Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) I think I'll submit a photo of my 4x4 truck although I'm not really sure it fits the theme. I just I hope I'll manage to repair it and take some new photos before the deadline, otherwise I'll submit an older photo. Edited March 7, 2010 by Sergiu Quote

I'd love to create an offroad truck with its capabilities someday. I posted my Lynx: Zblj's awesome Lynx is featured on the Brick Truck Trial webpage http://www.bricktrucktrial.com/article.php3?id_article=147 . He has built many other offroad MOCs too that are very advanced. Edited March 7, 2010 by dluders Quote
Atr Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I submitted my Jeep Willys (thumb is a link to BS): PS. This month's edition is funny because most of AFOLs are submitting old MOCs ;) Quote

Blakbird Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I can't submit it because it is not my MOC, but my favorite off road MOC is this one by grazi: Big Foot Quote
mahjqa Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) About this month's submissions; I think it's kind of lame that people are submitting old creations. Isn't it the point that everyone has 14 days to build? Edited March 10, 2010 by mahjqa Quote
vmln8r Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) I think there's still some room for improvement, so let me know if you have a brilliant idea for it. And about this month's submissions; I think it's kind of lame that people are submitting old creations. Isn't it the point that everyone has 14 days to build? Nice! Must be pretty fast with what looks like the RC motor. The lime gives it the TLG touch. I've started on a tracked Tractor for my submission two days ago which still needs a lot of 'work,' by which I mean playing Agree with your last point, despite it being an expected theme. Although I do think the 14th of each month is a week too early. Anyway, back to building... Edited March 9, 2010 by VMLN8R Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I started on a Unimog chassis in 1:20 some years ago. Perhaps I should fetch that from the attic and complete it? :D Quote

Brilliant MOC you got there, and yes I suppose it is pretty lame. I was quite hesitant to submit one of my old MOCs and wasn't even sure it was allowed but whatever, you don't try you don't get! telecasterman Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I was thinking about entering this "offroader": http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/telecast...er/img_1171.jpg But mahjqa's right, I should build something new. Hmmm. Thinking... Quote
vmln8r Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Full remote control, twin XL drive, transmission with drive, neutral and hitch control, LAs for steering and gearbox control, straight six, suspension on all tracks and pendular front axle. The only problem was getting it moving... 8-tooth gears and universal joints meant drive was too sticky for tractor-like progress. Still, I learnt a lot, it got me building in Technic again and I know how to make it work next time round. Quote
