I am new to these forums and introduced myself in the new members topic. I was wonder what people are using to store their kits in? I picked one of these, so should get several kits in this. The top also has 3 compartments for small items, would be good to store the small pieces in the top compartments. I have introduced myself in the new members. I have these sets 8294, 8295, 8265, and the red, truck crane coming, also got a Mindstorms NXT2.0, love robots and these kits are a good source for robot parts.

Hi there and welcome.

Personally I don't keep my parts sorted by sets, but rather by type. For this I use a considerable number of something similar to this in different sizes:

I also tried using these,

but I soon found out they are not as practical as I thought. You can only fill them about half before they start spilling over

I sort two different ways, by major color & basic piece in these Sterilite storage drawers from Wal Mart

and secondly by color and individual piece (for everything that isn't a 1X2 or 2X4 brick) into these Plano tack boxes. The exact one I use is around 4 dollars at Wal Mart, those dividers are configurable for really long pieces or reall small pieces. Even that little "compartment" between the two clasps can be used for modified 1X1 plates in small quantities.

"Really Useful Boxes" is what I use for storage lego bits. On some of box, they have tray where I keep small bit and bob like pins, gears and the like.

And they are easy to stack and strong.

They come in different size.

You fiend! If I were you, I'd be spending all of my days trying to figure out what to do with all of those spare motors! I wish I had free electric parts! Man, I would use them up in a second!

My form of "storage" is more like "all over the floor." It's organized in it's own little way, but seeing as the parts are constantly in use I wouldn't bother packing them up and taking them out each day. Instead I lock my door. It's a really big storage box.

There is a big thread on Lego storage here. I use 5 of the Stack-on containers discussed there, the Technic storage case from 8062 for electric and other specialized parts, and a 7784 Batmobile box for large wheels.

I'd love to see it! Hopefully soon! Especially if you're going to be using all of those!

To date I don't even have an XL-motor. I have more than 10 m-motors by now, all in use, by the way, but I never found a use for an XL, and then, before I could get my hands on them, they shot right to the backorder wagon, and won't get off 'till April!

It will take some weeks or months... My plan is to use 2 xl motors, and 2 M with 2 battery boxes.

I guess I'm one of the few who stores parts in their original boxes (when available)

It's not efficient with huge amount of parts, and sorted parts improves building speed.

Somethin about my trtr truck - plans changed, no tatra. I decided to build simple 8x8 chasis, then choose model of truck and built cab and other stuff.

Chasis elements ready, Darth Legolas photos especially for you. (sorry for quality, i used phone to make some photos)

I have a Stanley Organiser which I store my Mindstorms in, but decided upon a toolbox because these organisers, even though good only allow you to store one set. By just buying a toolbox, or even if you have a hugh contaner, takes up far less room then the orginal boxes, or even organises. I can either just put all the pieces in the toolbox and not worry about sorting, or sort them into zipper bags, makes more sense, takes up less room, more practical as far as I can see.

My toolbox has small compartments in the lid I can place small parts, the rest will just go all in the toolbox, and some in the tray within the toolbox.

I know I was looking ast getting more organisers for my other sets, but not all that deep, as I said good for holding about 1-1/2 sets, but in the long run takes up more room.

Just look at some of the storage ideas here, many organisers when one big toolbox, or one big container takes up far less room.

I used to use dollar store plastic shoe box containers. I've switched to a lockable lid model now after a couple of accidental drops and spills of the cheapy containers.
