Perterz Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Hi all, I've always wanted to create larger scale cars as a kid but I've never had the pieces I needed to do so. Now after almost 10 years Dark Age I'm finaly doing what I wanted to do. It's a wip for over a month now and almost done, I'm very happy with what I have so far. Only 1 thing to do, getting the steering work.. I want the steering wheel functional but I haven't accomplished that goal yet. The axle goes through the engine from the front, in the back I want it to connect the steering wheel in the interior. I've tried with gears and belts, they work but the steering goes in opposite direction! This is were you come in, do you have some advice for me? Thanks! Kevin. Quote
Zerobricks Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 What about rotating the front axle by 180 degrees? Quote
Ralph_S Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) That's weird. One or the other should work, because they do opposite things. If you have two axles connected through a belt, the axles will both rotate in the same direction. If the axles are connected through a gear on each instead they will rotate in the opposite direction. Looking at the geometry of your car, I'd say the gears would give you the right direction. Using gears and seen from the drivers seat looking forward, of the wheel turns left, the axle through the engine turns right. This pushes the steering bar to the left and the wheels to the left. Alasdair Ryan Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Have you tried using beveled gears they are a bit bigger than the normal gears. http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=32270 http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=32269 http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=x403 Edited May 22, 2014 by Alasdair Ryan Quote

Cheers, Ralph 1 gear per axle in the back seems to work because of their oposite moves, I only need bigger gears :) I don't see why my first attempt didn't work like it should, why the belt didn't work makes sense now. Thanks for the help, Kevin. Quote

Sorry. I didn't realise that your gears didn't actually touch each other. I'm glad you've sorted it out. Cheers, Ralph Quote
