tomacwhite Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I thought I would have a little play about with making my own models, which is something I really haven't done since I was a child. I decided to try and build a new model from one single Technics set. I went with the 2009 8256 Go Kart. It's a nice and simple model which is good for starting up. No point in taking the big bulldozer apart and trying to make something is there?! :D From the start I wanted to keep the working piston and steering, and try and cram in any other new functions too. My original idea was to make an F1 style race car, but that didn't really turn out too well. This evening I have come up with an off-road style buggy, which not only has both working piston and steering, but also has opening doors and bonnet (hood) (the vehicle is still rear engined). Here are some photos of the model. Bear in mind that I haven't used any parts that are not included in the model at retail (and there are a fair amount left out too) and the official model doesn't have that much to it anyway which is why it kinda looks bare bones. Main image Side view Front Rear Quarter shot with doors and hood open: Rear Quarter shot with doors and hood closed: As you can see there isn't much to play with from the pieces you get from the Go Kart. I enjoyed doing this and would like to have a go with a slightly larger model. Any thoughts? Quote
prateek Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 That's cool for an alternate model for such a small set. Great job Quote
TechnicJuan Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Not bad considering there isn't alot to work with. Quote
Milan Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I like these small projects, too. They are quite refreshment between large projects. Looking good, btw! Quote
tomacwhite Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 Cheers guys. It has been enjoyable playing around with such a small number of parts, you have to be really careful and think lots about the best way to use each individual part. I have added a basic roof to the vehicle now. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Nice custom alternative model you've got there! Although I think I like the roofless version a bit better, both are still good. I like all the different angles. Quote
ZO6 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Looks fantastic! Having the Go-kart myself, I will definitely try building something similar to what you have done. Thanks for showing off your creation! Quote

Beautiful, will try to replicate it. EDIT, just checked your BrickShelf, and damn, you do some fine alternate sets with so few pieces. Would love to see what you could do with a 8051 Edited December 21, 2010 by MetalRufflez Quote
