snefroe Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 i got the viking longboat a few days ago. btw, are we, belgians the only ones who are calling this a "Drakar" or "Snek"? Even a Danish bloke like TT has no clue what they mean... Anyway, i talked about this on msn yesterday with yoda and tt, and at one point we discussed what parts of the ship we did not assemble. then we started talking about what this cage is supposed to do. i guess every one thinks it's for prisoners, however, the theme doesn't show any prisoners, it's a "minifig against monster"-theme, unlike the castle theme. then this pic at the back of the box got me thinking: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...=ST&f=10&t=1827 the pic to the right indicates that the monster more or less protects the diamonds against the vikings... so what if this cage isn't for prisoners at all, but to allow a viking to get the diamonds at the bottom of the sea. The cage would protect the man against the monsters (compare it with cages photographers use if they want to take pics of sharks...) Quote
SuvieD Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I think you are right with your guess. Perhaps it is also used to teach naughty vikings to behave by tossing them in it and trolling with the cage under water. After a minute or two, a new behavior should arise. Quote
Deinonychus Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I'm puzzled by this too...at first glance it does look like a Viking shark cage...but lack of SCUBA equipment put the brakes on that idea :P The prisoner idea could make sense, but like you pointed out, no prisoners with the set. Best I could come up with is they toss that bird they're roasting (or the weakest of the crew) into the cage then play it out behind the boat and wait for old Jormungand there to get close so they can attack him Quote
KimT Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Or it could even be meant for prisoners taken on a raid. The Vikings did raid and this nice cage could hold a foreign princess from the castle theme - perhaps even the blacksmiths wife :oD or the forestwoman *wub* I think TLC meant the cage to be used per imagination. Use it for whatever... Play Well or Imagine! as the LEGO products once said ;) KimT Quote
Akkhraziel Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 . btw, are we, belgians the only ones who are calling this a "Drakar" or "Snek"? Even a Danish bloke like TT has no clue what they mean... Some of us over here call it a Drakkar, Drekkar, and many of the other variations of the word... *viki* Akkh Quote

The Vikings got it so easy compared to the poor Buccaneers. A nice cage to be towed along in? NAH!!! Buccaneers were dragged along underneath the ship and torn to pieces by the barnacles growing on the hull! Quote
Dreamweb Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 btw, are we, belgians the only ones who are calling this a "Drakar" or "Snek"? Even a Danish bloke like TT has no clue what they mean... I'm from Poland and the word drakkar is familiar to me, it exists in my language as well. And yes this boat is a drakkar :) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 29, 2005 Governor Posted November 29, 2005 We'll just say "Drakar" means dragon... That'll fix everything! Quote

crispen Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 i guess i t would be for the prisoners. true the set does not have any prisoners but look at real life vikings. they captured and took many prisoners and put them in cages, so i think it is just for a hint of reality. (PS. i was recently studying about vikings in school) Quote

KimT Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 And then to deep fry them? No just prisoners :oD Inquisitional prisoners ;) KimT Quote
The Hordesman Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Drakar means "Dragons" in swedish, its a plural. Usually, I put some evil feudals in the cage, and convert them to paganhood, even had a bishop once. :D Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted January 8, 2006 Governor Posted January 8, 2006 Like all good pirates we get taught that Vikings rape, pillage and plunder! But nobody said anything about changes to me! Quote
The Hordesman Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Like all good pirates we get taught that Vikings rape, pillage and plunder! But nobody said anything about changes to me! You forget the thralling! Whats a viking village without some poor thralls doing all the work (well the boring work, everything that doesnt have to do about carving decorations, runes, making myths and kill people)? Quote
KimT Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I'm pretty sure the Inquisitional Mr Phes knows what thralls are. He's got a whole bunch of them in Southern America. Hey I've heard he even tries to learn them how to play music [whistling the theme from The Mission] ;) KimT Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Those cages are as annoying as toasters !! They're way to small !! Like toasters, you cannot place more than 2 loafs (oops prisoners) !! Also you always burn yourself because of the metal when its ready !!! Darn useless cages >:( !!! *viki* *yoda* Quote
