Governor Mister Phes Posted October 17, 2005 Governor Posted October 17, 2005 Yeah, so what it is? They look the same to me... Not that I've really looked... Quote
Darkie Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Scala isn't around anymore. It also had more of a barbie-type fig. Belville uses more system parts, and has smaller, more minifig like figures. Quote
Lost Viking Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Scala bombed LEGO discontinued it in I think three years. Quote
gylman Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Scala was basically Barbie sized or slightly smaller. No construction at all worth mentioning, just some interconnection. Belville is real Lego, although in weird colours, excessively large pieces, and lots of interesting odd bits (greebles?) that go well in a variety of MOCs. Not too bad in the right setting (girls aged 5-8). Apparently in Europe Belville sells very well for this demographic. Gyl Quote
ApophisV Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Belville figs always always seemed to be the girlie counterpart to the technic figs... Anybody else thought this? Quote
Dino_Bot Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 They don't sell Bellville here in the US...maybe at the lego stores, but not everywhere. Quote
SuvieD Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Belville rocks and Scala don't. Scala is dolls with LEGO accessories, Belville is the ultimate in juniorization and at price to make even Jack Stone blush. Yet, Belville is the king, or should I say queen, of rare little parts in rare colors or fantastic parts that only come in one or two sets. These sets often have LEGO food which is a precious commodity, and they also feature non-violent/non-aggresive play. Think GiJoe completely reversed and stuck in a LEGO world. Variety is also important and belville has it. They have had weddings, pet shows, pop studios, underwater mermaid castles, beach outings, middle east shopping, frozen palaces, and much more. And all in one theme, who would have thought? Belville is like expensive LEGO candy. Bricks/plates/slopes are the starches, minifigs the meat and dairy, the rest is like vegetables, fruits, spices, or drinks. Belville is like the fats and sweets. It is expensive, doesn't leave one very satisfied on it's own but it tastes so good that once you have tried it, you can't live without just a little. If you don't have any Belville get a little. If you have a lot of Belville, share a little with me! ;) Quote
gylman Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 LMAO. So many words to make the point - you must belong to a debating society. But yes, what you say is exactly right Suvie. My favourites are the food greebles (carrots, apples, chicken legs, etc) I have a good number of Belleville sets, mostly purchased from Germany on eBay. Belleville is also easy to get on S@H in Canada but expensive. Occasionally they go on sale, and then you can load up. Gyl Quote
SuvieD Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 So many words to make the point - you must belong to a debating society. I have the habit of typing what i would be saying in real life. I tend to ramble on until I think all of the people I am speaking to understand what i am saying. Yes, it can be wordy but it is rare that people don't understand what I am saying. My favorite parts are the animals. Crabs, starfish, dolphins, monkeys, and the variety of birds are all great to have a few of. Quote
jof Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Belville is the ultimate in juniorization and at price to make even Jack Stone blush. Yes, But my daughter will play with it as she can build big things quickly. We should all know that in general boys want to build & bash, girls like to play with the people Jof Quote
