Captain Zuloo Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Not too long ago there were some real pirates that hijaked a super tanker carrying over $100,000,000 worth of oil in the Gulf of Aden. In fact, there have been over 70 pirate attacks in that area in 2008 alone! But now the authorities are taking action. Pirate vessels have been sunk and guidlines on what to do if pirates attack have been released, but that won't stop them all. What do you think? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 19, 2008 Governor Posted November 19, 2008 Captain Zuloo, it wasn't your crew who hijaked that tanker was it? Quote
Bob Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I remember awhile back about a Silver Sea's (I think this is it) That was recently threatened by Pirate Attacks. The Captain gunned the boat (Silver Sea's boats are like 400 feet, and thus can be gunned to an extent) and he hightailed it outta there. Since cruise ships and tankers seem to be the main "Target", and since they can't exactly get out of there to fast (We're talking 1000+ Foot boats..) I'd add possibly small arms weapons or heavy guns, in a safe thats under lock and key, and on the bridge, and thats behind a spooky painting. But...Thats just me. Quote
Norrington Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Oh, I like the idea of weapons in a safe behind a painting! Now we jest need some victorian wallpaper to go with it Besides, why are we so worked up about pirates attacking ships? If they didn't, then the we'd allready have succumbed to Global Warming. See laddies? And if you fight & hunt pirates, be sure to let them back into the wild afterwards. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Ok, I'm not sure how pirates are helping stop global warming , but true, if it wasn't for irates attacking ships, this forum wouldn't even be here. And no Mister Phes, it wasn't me - this time... I think keeping weapons on a ship is actually in existance, or on cruise ships at least, for security. But if there were many weapons, that could lead to other problems. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Strangely, I saw the story on the news yesterday. Seems that everyone is trying to get in on the pirate lure. Quote

As for my post, it was tounge in cheek, hence the ' ' Haven't you ever heard of "The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?" That's where the Global Warming & Pirates thing comes from. Pirates are the chosen people of the FSM, silly. Maybe read about it here: http://www.venganza.org/ Amen! Quote
Guss Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 save the planet! save the pirates! I think they're not a lot on the seas ^^ that's just an "Interesting news" to attract people ( like us ^^ ) attention ^^ they're a few who can be called real Pirates, but they sure do a lot of noises! The body of water between Yemen and Somalia known as the Gulf of Aden has been identified as the most dangerous piracy hot spot in the world, with more than 70 attacks reported this year. 70/"number of boat in this zone" = a few, a little few! plus it seems that they killed nobody ... if they did so, I think the journalist have said it , so they're surely smart peoples ^^ "[The pirates are] very good at what they do,” US military officer Admiral Michael Mullen said on Monday. “They're very well armed. Tactically, they are very good." at first sight, they're not bloody peoples attacking random ship ^^ Quote
oDDerFisken Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I've got lots of troubles when i hear of these pirate-attacks. On one hand, they are pirates but on the other it's pretty bad for the cargoships and so on. and the crew and the global warming. If the have to sail around Africa instead they will use a lot more fuel, and that causes more global warming. But in the end I think I ends up thinking the pirates are some scissy's. They haven't got the traditional pirate-dress. Where the big hat? The tricorne? The peglegs and hooks aren't even there And besides they've got machines guns and bazookas. Thats so unfair for the crew of the ships. If they had cutless's, real pirateguns and cannons it'll be a fair game. How about classic-pirates making a pirateship with us real pirates, and tried to plunder the other pirates? Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Well I suppose we could have a big classic-pirates day or something where we all get dressed up and hire a tall ship in our areas and sail around a harbour. But that's an idea that can be discussed at a later date... Quote
Norrington Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Yeah! Real pirates wear frilly shirts and knee-length pants! Also, they wear wigs and pony-tails. It's really interesting to see how the definition of masculinity has changed somewhat over time. Quote
MillerTime Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Atleast they don't seem to be killing anybody.... If the have to sail around Africa instead they will use a lot more fuel, and that causes more global warming. That was a bold statement. (no proof that that is contributing to warming temperatures.) Anywayyyyy back to the pirates. Now if they were slaughtering the crews of these ships then military action definitely needs to be taken. It should still be taken but definitely a higher priority if that was happening. Quote
Scouty Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 The pirates expected to see the new LEGO pirate sets on there. To their disappointment it was only just oil Quote

Unfortunately the di*k heads got away, but at least a ship carrying heaps of ammo was taken down. Quote

Captain Zuloo Posted November 21, 2008 Author Posted November 21, 2008 Well, I guess that largely depends on how much oil and cargo companies are willing to pay the authorities. That's my take anyway. Quote
MillerTime Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Well, I guess that largely depends on how much oil and cargo companies are willing to pay the authorities. That's my take anyway. I would think a good way to fight it is to go undercover on some tankers and take down the pirates when they climb on board....even if you just do it once, it'd create a HUGE fear factor. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted November 21, 2008 Author Posted November 21, 2008 Good idea, but that would cost heaps! After all, there have been 70 attacks this year, and thousands of ships sailing through. To position people on each ship would be impracticle. Quote

To position people on each ship would be impracticle. I didn't say every tanker, I said maybe a few. Eventually pirates will pick the correct one and they'll lose. That one failed attempt will create a fear factor for all pirates out there. :pir-skull: Edited November 25, 2008 by MillerTime Quote
Zepher Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 People are simply celebrating the re-release of pirates lego line by going back to thier roots and pirating things. Really, though, these guys aren't like the pirates we know and love. what's a pirate withour a sword? Wodden Boat? Hat? Nothing is the answer my friends! Quote
Lego Parrot Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Norrington, it's RAmen, He, the FSM, said so. I just wanted to clarify. Modern pirates are so different, but yet still so great. If only Lego made them too... Quote
cagri Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Two Turkish ships were captured in Somalia last month. Silly pirates don't even ask for a ransom! It's impossible to do business with them. Three Turkish frigates left the NATO guard duty, now they are planning to attack the harbour and save the ships. That's just crazy if you ask me! I hope those nutjobs are bluffing. It's sad that pirates haven't figured out they must ask for ransom if they want to play pirate. Are they doing this for fun? Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted November 28, 2008 Author Posted November 28, 2008 Modern pirates are so different, but yet still so great. If only Lego made them too.. Well it might just be me, but I think pirates are terrible things. And terrible people. I think LEGO could make them, but I don't like war based lines, and classic pirates isn't really that violent. And classic pirates have ships as the main focus, modern pirates only have the violence and weapons. In my opinion, LEGO modern pirates = very bad idea. Quote
