ZCerberus Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I do not know if this has been addressed, but a happy surprise with the '09 pirates line is the extra parts that are in the sets... The new sets have one extra epaulette in each color that is in a set and an extra cutlass-- this is excellent news for those of us looking for more of either!! Quote
Capn Frank Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Excellent! Looking forward to being broke! Are any of them yellow epaulets? Those are the only ones i need at the moment. Quote
Adam Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Excellent!Looking forward to being broke! Are any of them yellow epaulets? Those are the only ones i need at the moment. Alas, my pickle-pirated friend, yellow epaulettes are not going to (and have not) appeared in the new 2009 Pirates line. They, like cups and other commonly yellow pieces, have been replaced with a goldish color. Arrrr, bring back the yeller, mates! Quote
MillerTime Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) The cannon set I got comes with an extra blue, but unfortunately the color I'm missing some of is red which only comes with the $50 soldier dock. The blue ones are exactly the same blue as the original ones, right? I compared them and they are pretty far off but I'm not sure if the originals are just very discolored or if the shades are slightly different... Edited November 19, 2008 by MillerTime Quote

But that is hardly a bad thing... I compared them as you did and they appear to be pretty close- I think it is just fade! Are any of them yellow epaulets? Those are the only ones i need at the moment. As was stated before- there are no yellow eps- but there are Gold eps. I got an extra set with the shipwreck pirate base and they look GREAT on my sig fig. I, however, happen to have several sets of yellow eps. that I would be willing to trade you for blue and or white ones (the white are rather rare). PM me if you are interested- it should be fairly easy for you to acquire some blue ones for trade with an extra set being available in the new sets when the sets are obtainable in cheese-head land! Governor Mister Phes Posted November 19, 2008 Governor Posted November 19, 2008 ZCerberus, it's great to see you back! Will we be seeing any MOCs from you using the new pirate pieces in the near future? Quote
Shadows Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 It's been mentioned in some of the reviews, but it's good to see it discussed seperately since it's such great news. I, too, miss the true yellow epaulettes, but it's nice having blue and red return, along with the new gold. I don't think there was anything wrong with yellow, but it's one more variation, so I'm not complaining. Similarly, I wish the dark green rag wrap was just green, but I'll live with the few I have and I love more colours. As for the cutlass, it can't hurt. I mean, I have literally dozens of extras in old grey from a lucky visit to a LEGO store with a well-stocked PaB, but I'll take 'em. Same trip also netted me a pile of red and blue rag wraps and old brown muskets. I assume they had cleaned out some old bins at the factory and were dumping them to make room. A happy day for me, I'll say that. Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 ZCerberus, it's great to see you back! Will we be seeing any MOCs from you using the new pirate pieces in the near future? Well I am certainly working on some MOCs- even if not with the new parts-- I did some castle work and some Mars Mission stuff- but right now I am finishing up the Phantom! I am tying hundreds of knots to finish the rigging on the Phantom- then some sails, and I can start a new MOC. I am considering rebuilding the Xebec I had with a new all brick built hull. The Man-of-war I was working on was not satisfactory- so I dismantled that for the time being. I do have some cannons from the new sets and I would guess the mid sections on the Viking ship are the same length (and color) as the ones on Brickbeard's Bounty- maybe there is something there to build a bigger pirate ship with the new theme and pieces- we'll see! I definitely like some of the new pirate stuff- the gold spy glasses, gold accents and epaulets, fish and flame elements and the new cannons... I'll keep you posted! Quote
Johnny 5 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 How many different colors are there in the 2009 line total? Quote

Shadows Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 WOW. I would probably die if I saw old brown muskets at a PaB...that's insane. How many years ago was this and at which Lego store? Prepare to die... it was this year, maybe 6 months ago. Downtown Disney, Orlando. They had received a couple of cases of random minifig parts that weren't intended for the build-a-fig and I just happened to pick the right moment to arrive. Ended up with a pile of black aviator helmets and more bley crossbows than any one person could ever need as well. Add in the blue and red rag wraps, some random hair and a variety of racing helmets, pikes, spears, axes and a few samurai swords, and it was a surprising little haul. I had to manually pick out the good stuff from amongst all of the race helmets though, there were literally thousands of those with a very limited number of the good things. All in all, worth the time and effort. Quote

Hmm, i like the idea of gold for the highest ranking officers like the captain and his lieutenants of the constitution. Then all the sergeants can have the yellow epaulets. (i should have enough ) Thanks guys. Quote

I'll just dream it happened to me and I'll feel better. Quote
MoonCheese Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Extra accessories are always good to have! I remember the recent Castle sets (the only Lego sets I've purchased post-Dark Age except the Holiday Train Collection or whatever has been Castle, but that may change when Pirates become available here) had a lot of extra elements in them. In the old days, usually it'd just be like a couple of extra 1*1 round plates... Quote
Thee Pirate Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I am a cucumber. You're a pirate who doesn't do anything. Apparently, you've also never been to Boston in the fall. Quote

Commander Andrew of 501 st Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 This comment is lost on me... what does that mean? Mind blowing! Its from an old song by Relient K in the Veggie tales movie. On-topic:I think its very sweet that there are extra epaulets. Especially that extra gold one. Gold tooth is gonna be pimped out Fo-Sho! Sorry for this mostly useless post. He has also never thrown his mashed potaters up against the wall> I'm done here. ~Andrew~ Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 He has also never thrown his mashed potaters up against the wall> I'm done here. I clearly need to watch more Veggie Tales! Quote
Capn Frank Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 You're a pirate who doesn't do anything. Boy, you've got that right! I clearly need to watch more Veggie Tales! Right here! The pirates who don't do anything! (i'd skip the first 52 seconds though ) It where "Boston in the Fall" comes from. About extra parts, I was real happy that the sword duel Indy set came with an extra cutlass and bley knife Quote
Thee Pirate Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Its from an old song by Relient K in the Veggie tales movie. I saw Relient K sometime in 2002/2003 when they passed through Dallas... seeing/hearing that song live was quite possibly the funniest show moment I've ever experienced Quote
