Tordenskjold Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Hi folks. I’ve been thinking a bit(yes i can think too ) about making some sort of rank marks on the uniforms of my army. And also finally made my organisation map of the grenadier regiment and the artillery battallions. I use some correction paint(the white paint you use to fix some wrong writing on paper) And mark dots on the Epaulets. Soldiers : no dots regular uniform, shako, musket Corporal : one dot right shoulder. regular uniform, shako, musket Sergeant : dot on each shoulder. regular uniform, shako, musket Second Lieutnant : no dots, regular uniform tricorne hat , pistol Lieutnant : one dot right shoulder, regular uniform tricorne hat , pistol Captain : dot on both shoulders, regular uniform tricorne hat , pistol Major :No dots, officer uniform ,Bicorne black, pistol or just sabre Lieutnant Colonel : right shoulder dot, officer uniform ,Bicorne White, pistol or just sabre Colonel :dots both shoulder, officer uniform ,Bicorne White, pistol or just sabre Generals : always white epaulette , officer uniform ,Bicorne White, pistol or just sabre I also use the white paint on the blue flag , to identify the company. white tip on upper split is 1.coy, white tip on lower split is 2. coy and both split white is 3.coy. So this is Eskdale Company (first Company), Yorkshire Battallion(1.batt ,but havent figured out how to mark the flags for battallion) of the 1. Regiment of Royal Grenadiers Cool names i think What do you think of this kind of rank system? biggest reason for using only the white correction paint is that it can be removed, so i wont destroy my lego. And i think using paper flags or marks look good but a bit strange. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I think this is a good idea. I won't use it as sadly I don't have an army, but this is a very good idea. Mind you don't use those guys in the comp though because Phes and SlyOwl might eat you. Joking. It's just that in the rules it is specified that only official un modified bricks are allowed. Quote
Guss Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 nice Idea to makes rank in your army, as long as you have a huge enough army to make ranks^^ , and what about using different epaulets colours ? Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 If you check out my thread here you can see my attempt at rankings. Regards, Cpt. PB Quote
Tordenskjold Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) Hi Guss . I have a combination of uniform and epaulette color that divert them: Red /blue epaulettes : Royal Grenadier regiment Red /yellow epaulettes: marine soldiers Red /white epaulettes: Generals (no marine will be general) Blue /red epaulettes&shako : Royal Garrison Artillery soldier Blue /red epaulettes/Tricorne : field artillery soldier Blue /yellow : Royal navy Blue/white : Artillery General Blue /white&white gloves : Admiral Royal Navy and i have some troops i think : about 200 Royal Grenadiers , about 50 Royal Garrison Artillery, and about 40+ in my field artillery battallion . and some marines too .and more is coming . Hi Captain Zuloo , I havent hadthat in mind, so hopefully Mr Phes and SlyOwl wont come after me, andif they do!!! i will defend my colors to the last minifig. FOR KING AND LEGOCOUNTRY. Hi Cpt. Pegleg Blockbeard : liked the way you divided them. and will do something like that on seaman and topmen, but i used the imperial soldier (with red epaulette) as artillerytroops, and i also like the white color as a mor prominent color. its like when i put on clotes. the more dirty i can get the colors will be darker. a admiral/general is seldom in a situation where he will get dirty and can them use white more Edited September 21, 2008 by Tordenskjold Quote

Guss Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 ok Torkenskjold , so you did a good use of different colours^^ I have 8 soldiers! I'm pretty sure if we engage our full forces one against the other, I have my chances !! to run away Quote
Tordenskjold Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 hehe Guss. i started with two soldiers if we met on the battlefield i think ill will grant your men a safe retreat, to fight with my army against 8 men will be a dishonour for me. what kind of soldiers do you have? Quote
Guss Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 it's only some basic marine soldiers , and their tiny boat! you'll see them in my entry for the pillage the village contest ^^ Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 21, 2008 Governor Posted September 21, 2008 I use some correction paint(the white paint you use to fix some wrong writing on paper) and mark dots on the Epaulets. Ummm... Wouldn't it have been easier and more distinguishable if you just used different colour epaulets? Or am I missing the point here? Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 You could buy those ranking shoulder pauldrons on MMCB. I don't think it's been tried on pirates, but its worth a shot. Quote
Tordenskjold Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) good evening Mr Phes. i wanted to use the minifigs i already have, and keep them as close to orginal as i could. and when i look at the imperial guard, i se a soldier in a royal force, since they have blue epaulettes. i also like the idea that white epaulettes are for the HIGH ranks only. and by adding color on the epaulettes i could get more ranks than by mixing with uniforms/hats only. by adding none, one or two dots on the epaulettes i can get 3 ranks on each kind of uniform. that plus different hats, weapons ets made it possible for me to create all the ranks i needed. that was my motivation If there was more colors to get i would perhaps think oterwise but with my system i can see in far distance what kind of branch a minifig is in. blue uniform with red epaulette, thats artillery. blue with white epaulette, thats a general/Admiral. and then at closer range i can see if its a Captain or a Corporal. like in real life Hope that explained some for you You could buy those ranking shoulder pauldrons on MMCB. I don't think it's been tried on pirates, but its worth a shot. hmm whats that? do you have a link for it? Found that Now. looking good i think but kind of strange too. perhaps if i had alot of men without epaulettes i could have thought of buying those kind, Edited September 21, 2008 by Tordenskjold Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 If you check out my thread here you can see my attempt at rankings.Regards, Cpt. PB I checked out your link. Nice job. The ranks look great. I distinguish my ranks very similar to what you have shown... Different color epaulettes and uniforms is all you need for ranks. Quote
Tordenskjold Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 I also liked the rank system he used. but i wanted to keep my men as orginal as i could. i changed face for most of the nco and officers so i could give them names but apart from that i thought that oficers are like this soldiers(like pi062)---->low officers(like pi065)----->high rank officer(like pi074) and then i added white epaulette and made a 4. level Generals . and since i like keeping the epaulettes in the same color for the same kind of force i changed the colors of the low and high officers. I think your ranking system is very clever, but you will have to adopt an epaulette system for Pillage The Village becuse only lego bricks are allowed. Bugger! Quote
