Wapata Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Hello ! I have found a USB-C board that can supply 9V voltage https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005009793718316.html and then said to my self "wait, what ? I can put a USB C port on my Lego remote, Lego CyberMaster, Lego Interface-B, Lego Control Center ... and all ! So let's fire up the solder iron ! At first I was thinking that i could make a 3D printed case, Lego shaped, then procrastination knock on my head and said that "meh, what about a wire instead ? " and voila ! I can now use any GOOD FULL USB-C power supply, the cable negotiate 9V and that all. If you don't have a good full power supply, you will have 5V... take one of your Nintendo Switch 13 minutes ago, Wapata said: procrastination But i've made a gig : And i have my first new old 9v on USB And it work ! dr_spock Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Nice work. I ordered similar modules from AliExpress bundle deals but haven't done anything with them yet. One of these days... Quote
gyenesvi Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I'm not sure I understand the problem you are solving here. Are you just adding a USB-C port onto the 9V battery box, so that instead of having the batteries in it, you can run it off a wall plug via a regular USB-C charger? If yes, why do you need the 9V battery box for that, why not just a PF plug end on the cable that comes out of the converter? And then you can just plug that into a switch, as it seems on your first pictures. If I understand correctly, the board just converts the 5V USB input to 9V (or whatever you select on it), right? tseary Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I can see the use in this for bench testing, since USB-C has become ubiquitous. Years ago I modified one of my PF battery boxes to run off the 9V train transformer. I put a barrel jack through the battery cover on one side, and an LM7809 voltage regular inside. I still use it when I'm testing stuff out, to save batteries. (It can't really do anything more serious than that or the regulator goes into thermal shutdown). Quote

Plus you can't plug an external power supply AND let the connector on the battery older empty, because when no button is pressed, there is a short (to brake the motors). In the end, think about Control Center 1, Tower with 9v batteries that won't work with 8.9 volts and finally, think about the "oh snap, where is my Lego power supply again ?" situation. I have also made adapters for other Lego power blocks that I need to update like that. Quote
