vaoinas Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Hello! I recently got myself a classic 6086 Black Knight's Castle and was very happy to find all the plumes, especially white ones, in it. However upon closer inspection, I'm starting to suspect that the white ones are actually fake. Compared to others, these are more shiny and the detail isn't that crisp. On the other hand I tried to google fake Lego plumes but nothing came up to indicate that faking these is a thing out there. The Yellow is a original Lego, white is a suspect here. What do you think? SpacePolice89 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Hard to tell from the picture but my white plume that belongs to the same set is not shiny at all. It looks the same as my other plumes. This Ebay listing has some good pictures of a real white plume https://www.ebay.com/itm/204778214357?_skw=lego+white+plume&itmmeta=01KKW5BW8XPXYANYTRW13RSR2F&hash=item2fadbb93d5:g:7NkAAOSwlFNmMpLU&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA0GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xA3Y4CzX6bYnH9ndcq%2BqQxvtqQC3b88YbkEmk%2BokHt0ChakdG9X5Uz34NIjYNmHh5H57LPyH4CS7DU7h%2BkIxbWEhSfdw4U7oTrvRDTrEKAeiMWRxzJXNYvFxWB94Mrfdf0qyoC3DERdpL5iV6dR7JSoDOsnEUzejCFLlwwH9sGC8vHM7Ss1Dv1XF8A6sPyHTzypVZh3zreBwBt6sjMvRxngFe5vrkUvnA9hMwXhaUSog3Wbx4EAOLalKAFXZYrdBQY%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9DEr4WfZw I notice that the tail in your picture is a bit different from all the others. It has only three bumps but mine and the other plumes have four. Quote
vaoinas Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 I did a bit more searching on these and I'm sad to say - these really are fakes. I found an Etsy listing on 5-pack of these for 5 Eur. So yeah, something to look out for and to be careful about when buying classic sets. Quote
SpacePolice89 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 From reddit: "got quite a few of them as well and they are great! just the white ones are way more shiny that any other lego plume which is a shame" 5 minutes ago, vaoinas said: I did a bit more searching on these and I'm sad to say - these really are fakes. They are very expensive on Bricklink. I found this auction. https://www.ebay.com/itm/327049528701?_skw=lego+black+knights+white+plumes+6086&epid=27053594614&itmmeta=01KKW62EYGQN9ABGV925GBWR04&hash=item4c25abc57d:g:gx0AAeSwPfRptnhz&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAABAGfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xCv%2BwTpdV8WT88lrPqTstOQlCDnWfupJVFFZ5LRJ91QN2errtV%2BvsjH%2FR0d8PvfzEm8MYalB6nV8UTTRFiKYF5nzYkK1lpnTQNVFkcxcvCg%2F8HnBkZGAseZRW1Pf8%2B4r8S9VGt398qmQp3Y%2Bipi%2BV%2Fg9EDIcQ5upJIaAwaOquHSC8RdwMp54Xq%2FAf2Do8PPe3FZ62opc%2BMxkiUokN9M3vI3aOJige8D8vSfdYA9WzfK3e4uLBki7qS46Amce30VIxmeu1hUlnxSPmx3bOS3ET3osurPLfrzALrELtKfUMkvY5VHE5dQVYqBO1Uvqj%2B9Uno%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7jviYafZw Quote
MAB Posted March 17 Posted March 17 If you look at the cylinder part by the feet of the dragon, there is a bit of flashing where the halves of the mould join. This is indicative of a cheap mold that hasn't quite joined properly. And also the detail is a bit off, but of course you need a real one to compare. There are so many fakes of in-demand parts these days. Quote
JesseNight Posted March 17 Posted March 17 This looks very obviously like a 3D printed fake yes. Personally I have nothing against 3D printing but this clearly isn't a great job and not the correct choice of material. And obviously they should never be sold under the impression of being real. Quote

I don't think they are 3D printed. They look like someone has made a mould from an existing part. That causes loss of detail and the seam marks. Quote
JesseNight Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Could be both, probably. 3D printing is often as good as the person knows how to fine tune their equipment, getting hq prints isn't exactly plug & play yet. (ftr I don't 3D print myself but I've seen how long a friend has been fine tuning his printers before getting great detail out of it) Quote
vaoinas Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 To me it seems to be injection molded like the original one - just poorly done. Quote
