TalusMoonbreaker Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Despite the chaotic change in power that had characterized Varlyrio for the last several months, things in this corner of Illaryia were looking quiet, a little too quiet… I‘m a bit limited on parts and don’t have any of my Varlyrian minifigs on hand at the moment, but this was fun to build! Grover Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Well, for not having a lot of parts and no figures, I think it's pretty nice. You have done a nice job with what you have for the SNOT street. The cheese wedges making an irregular face add some nice detail, and your choice of only making two houses to preserve the aspect ratio of the scene helps promote the idea that the houses are tall and narrow. Are the cylinders free floating? They look like it, but if you're able to get those fixed on a stud, I'd be impressed. The dark orange and flame yellow orange look good next to one another, and I appreciate your color blocking of white framing the left hand door. The pink roof on the right is another nice contrast, and you do a great job with the medium nougat and the few plates and rounded plates you have adding texture to the masonry and normal bricks. Nice work! Quote
SimWies Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Impressive look with a limited number of bricks! I really like the roof on the yellow house and and the white on the box in door on the right house. Quote
Seagull King of Vaughan Posted February 24 Posted February 24 The water looks rather calm, fitting with the times. It’s always good to see more of Varlyrio, especially the non-intrigue parts! Quote
Kai NRG Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Is that teal water I see? Bold choice of color and it looks really great. I like your use of rounded elements on the roofs too. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Sorry, I am late to the party but I have to say I love this build! The unpretentiousness of the build makes it even stronger! The composition of the moc, the houses and SNOT water - it's not overladen with details but condensed down to the core. Love it! Quote

Nice work! Thank you! Yes, the cylinders are free floating. I think that I have a few 1x1 bricks with snot stud - but not here at uni. I really like the colors and wanted to use them. I wanted to do the whole house in flame yellow orange but I received yellow when I ordered. They look similar on a screen. I had wanted to build a turquoise/teal house but decided to use it for the canal instead. I only built two houses because I ran out of bricks! I recently got more of those pieces in a PaB box and I'm really excited to use them... eventually. I really want to explore more of Varlyrio since most of my builds have been in the Bay of Illar. I had some build ideas for a dwarven city in the mountains - and even the entire story already written - but haven't gotten around to it unfortunately On 3/10/2026 at 6:21 PM, Kai NRG said: Is that teal water I see? Regardless I love the color and want to use it more! I've also always wanted to use these elements for a terracotta roof. I find over detailed stonework can look too messy for a building that people use daily (unless it's a ruin). It's also just the stonework technique that I've been using for the past 6 years (which is weird to think about). By the way, just out of curiosity, what do you define as unpretentious in terms lego builds? Quote

Maybe it was not correct? Sometimes mocs are overladen with details, so much that details and techniques seem to be the main focus. Your moc looks sleek and clean and that's what I liked about it so much. Sorry, I can't express myself better Quote

I‘ve only heard the word used regarding people but the dictionary says that it can refer to objects and places too! I’ve been taking German classes at Uni and I’ve accidentally used the wrong word many times so it’s ok. Quote
