There was some confusion, as that set is actually the E.T. buildable figure. The KITT model may still be coming, but not in August.

Also, if the leak was real, this would be the first time an Ideas result has leaked beforehand.

Ah, glad to have some concrete info about it. I saw a post on IG a while ago and got excited but immediately tempered it, realizing the rumor could be fake.
Since no one else said anything about a Knight Rider set coming up, I figured it indeed would not be coming.

Too bad, but hopefully in the future. And preferably as a Speed Champions.

We’ll know for sure once the next Ideas results are announced, since there is a KITT entry in that batch

Nice to know that there's an actual change for Kitt.
But if it's Ideas, it's not likely to be a Speed Champions-size/style set, right?

Nope, the submission is a large-scale model! Of course there could be a SC set at some point, but if that was planned, it would not align well with an Ideas set.

I still think there was some fundamental misunderstanding going on since Ideas winners have never leaked before, mostly because it takes roughly a year for the sets to be developped and produced. If a KITT really was already scheduled for this year, that would mean they pretty much started to work on it when that review phase ended in late August, which would be bonkers, especially considering it was the record-breaking 146-set phase

It could be true that KITT was chosen, but it would certainly be a 2027 set then.

 that's a lot of info in there, but I agree with this second sentence.
My question was mainly based on the the fact that there's a large version of the DeLorean  (though that's a Icons set, not Ideas) as well as the recent Speed Champions set, but as you indirectly indicated, there was several years between those two. 

There's still hope!
