Auroralampinen Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 Well, this has brewed in my head a couple times to create a separate topic for my other hobbies. Because brick building isin't my only hobby. And i now decided to create the long awaited other hobby topic:). In case you didn't know. Im active cyclist my daily driver is 2023 pelago silvo which i did buy this august. My last bike was 2022 helkama tuuli e bike which i buyed in 2023 november and sold it in 2025 october. Because of my new bike. I cycle everyday since i don't own car. And i do all my shopping basically only with my cycle. And some times i do take some trips with car. But i try to be less reliant of car. And it has worked out perfectly:). And i have rode my new bicycle around over 800km. And i do save my trips sometimes but not always. Because my usual daily trip is to the local hypermarket for buying milk and food. And here is my saved trips:). Yes, i have cycled a ton saved trips count is 769km but i do ride a lot more so my kilometer count is close to 800km:). And my e bike had over 3500km on it's trip meter:). End of last august i did cycle my longest trip 72km:). Yesterday i cycled my second longest trip 66km:). My yesterday's trip was north päijänne tour. And i had to end the trip early in the village of oittila. Because the wind was too much. But im still really proud of my results:). And yes, this topic mainly focuses on my cycling adventures:). And in case you have only visited helsinki on finland trip. My home province of central finland(keski-suomi) and my home city of Jyväskylä is really hilly. So mine cycling conditions aren't flat as on the netherlands. My cycling conditions are really hilly with ton of climbing. And nowhere to bee see a flat land;). Quote
bruh Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 Very nice! I also enjoy biking when I have chances to. My longest ride was 85km, I wish I had more time for riding. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 Great topic! I used to ride my bikes a lot in the past. Road bike and mountain bike as sports and I also used to do all my grocery shopping with a bike for many years. I got hit by cars twice, one time in the city and one time riding my road bike. At the moment I am much more into hiking and I try to walk some km several times a week. I still follow pro cycling very closely though! How's biking in the winter in Finland @Auroralampinen? I guess you have much more snow than we have in northern Germany. Do you have bike lanes along the roads? The sport I actually like the most is swimming, but there's no public pool where I currently live and taking the train to the next city just to go to the pool... nah then I rather go for a walk Quote

But if you live in Helsinki there isin't a lot of snow. But our winters aren't as bad as they seem. And currently our winters are pretty warm with few snowy days att first. But January we have a ton of snow usually. And in Jyväskylä we have had a few snowy days allready. But now we don't have any snow and weather is +5:/. I remember when i was a kid in 2010's era we had a lot more snow in this time period especially in here keski-suomi(central finland) or in eastern finland(itä-suomi) when i visited my relatives and family members:). And im from pirkanmaa the neighboring province for keski-suomi there was a lot of snowy days. But always Keski-Suomi and itä-suomi had more snow;). Quote

In finland we have basically any city or munipulacity a somesort swimhall. In Jyväskylä we have pretty big swimhall:). In aaltoalvari there are 2 water slides, wave pool, jacuzzi, long distante swimming pool, jump pool, relaxin pool, excersice pool, couple cold water pools, and 4 electric saunas, and one real wood burning sauna:). Sorry of my rought translation for the pool names;). Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Sounds great! I also envy your lakes. We just have three small quarry ponds in the area where I live and in two swimming is forbidden and in the third swimming is also forbidden but people do it anyway. On weekends when there are no workes... Quote

SpacePolice89 Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 (edited) Besides Lego I have several hobbies and interests. While Lego is my number one hobby I have many others spread out over many different areas. Like you I like cycling. I mostly like to bike on small paths in the countryside or along the beaches on roads and cycle paths. I only have an ordinary city bike. I also like cars, I drive a Chevy Cruze (I am mostly interested in 80s to 00s American and Japanese sedans but my first car was a 1967 Ford Anglia). I like to take long walks along the coast. 80s and 90s movies/tv series (my favorites are ones with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone or Eddie Murphy). Travelling (mostly in Denmark, Sweden, UK, Canada and Germany nowadays, I used to go to the US every winter but not anymore). Videogames (I currently play BF6, Stray and Lego Party). 80s music. Books (favorite authors are Tom Clancy and Anne Applebaum) History and maps. I also love cats but I consider my cat a family member and not a hobby. Edited December 7, 2025 by SpacePolice89 Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I recently took up painting. Around my last birthday, I was discussing the prospect of retiring with my wife. She told me that if I retired, I'd get bored. She asked how I'd spend my day if I weren't schlepping off to work 5 days a week. I countered, saying that, in addition to spending more time on Lego, that I'd like to do more baking and that I'd like to learn to paint. So she bought me a paint set and gave me a card that read "You can play with these after you get home from work and make us dinner, every day until further notice. Don't retire until you've sold enough paintings to cover your salary for the next decade but remember it's just a hobby, so no pressure." My painting skills are improving, but I won't be quitting my day job anytime soon... Quote
dr_spock Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I bike everywhere all year round too. I have a sunny day bike, a rainy day bike, a winter day bike, etc. People keep giving me their bikes. I will have to say "no thank you" at some point. I think my fav so far is a 1989 Univega Rover ST given to me last year. It has that nostalgic feel and 80's ride quality. I fixed it up to be my grocery getter. Quote
zeeverse Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Fun Topic! I love meeting other cyclists! I'm a commuter cyclist, so bicycles are my main ride in the big city. I bought an old Diamondback Kalimar 7-speed as an eventual backup bike, but also my first bike since it has been a few decades since I rode one. Once I got relatively consistent with that, two years ago I bought my first brand new bicycle. I got a TREK FX1 with rim brakes (the bike had options for disc brakes). I had to upgrade my TREK and bring it up to a fully matched machine. The bike is an absolute joy to ride, and total costs with upgrades was just under $1000USD, which is quite cheap in the TREK line of bikes. Quote
