I have recently checked my light gray spaceman helmet and am surprised to see it only has the number "4" on the inside. Is this normal for something this old? I bought it off a reputable seller on Bricklink, so I believe it is genuine. I know some castle helmets don't have the logo as well, but I wish to confirm if the space helmets, specifically part number "193a2" on Bricklink, are the same as well. Would appreciate it if anyone who has an actual one from the older castle minifigures could confirm it. Thank you!

They weren't as consistent with the logo back then, so probably normal.  I checked mine with the thin chinstrap and a red one has "3", yellow has "04 1".

Interesting! My other helmets have the logo, and they all have a similar font style, except for this particular one, which stood out even more and got me concerned. Do yours have the same font style as the gray one in my pic?

I'll let you judge yourself, for context they're pieces of this set 6890 which I pulled out of a 15000+ piece bulk lot, so it's probably not all from the same original set, but is obviously Classic Space-specific parts.

Certainly the helmet uses a wider font than the more modern parts, can't say if it's the same based on 3 and 4.

I don't know what set the yellow helmet is from, it was in the same bulk lot without a corresponding spaceman.  But it uses a 3rd different font.YAdyR0f.jpeg

A 2x8 plate, which helpfully does have Lego logos on the studs, has yet another font:

The nose piece 3839b, I would say matches your helmet?q2nhT0G.jpeg

Thank you very much for the photos! They're certainly helpful and it seems like the "4" under the white plate is somewhat similar to the one in my helmet so I guess it's safe to say it's genuine! Thanks again for your help!

The numbers identify where in the mould the element was made.
So a "4" would indicate that the helmet was made in the 4th slot of the mould.
This makes it easier to identify where the issue is, for example in short runs, where plastic is missing - if the number was visible, then the engineer could focus on that part of the mould instead of servicing the full mould.
