kelceycoe Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) In my continuation of updating vital Pirate information so everyone has the correct information - especially Influencers - I found a very good reliable source that dispels the full details to how it began. Across the Internet fans had hinted on it but never demonstrated any evidence that connected what we knew to actually how Pirates originated - until now! If you read the article published by Blocks Magazine, Issue 100, we learned - from Niels Milan Pedersen again - that in 1986 The Lego Group had actual Pirate models completed and ready to go BUT WAS DELAYED UNTIL 1986 because the Castle theme was so successful. But now - thanks to the book, The Secret Life of Lego Bricks, we actually learn - again through Niels Milan Pedersen - that Lego Pirates' origins began IMMEDIATELY after the launch of the Castle theme in 1984. https://www.flickr.com/photos/203530674@N07/54816846910/in/album-72177720329308752 I uploaded the pages from The Secret Life of Lego for everyone to read and see and learn about the Western theme's early cancellation (which most of us knew) but also details on Europa and Roman themes that haven't really been discussed anywhere else. I am still reading Brick by Brick. That book - which goes back and forth too much - has a lot of factual information about the rise/fall of Lego in the 1990s. Many of the wikis have the specific reasons correct but they're incorrect with the dates and I'll put the details about that in the appropriate forum at another time. TIMELINE OF Niels Milan Pedersen / PIRATES LINE: Summer 1980: Niels Milan Pedersen is hired by The Lego Group 1984: Castle is relaunched / Pirates are automatically envisioned 1986: Pirates theme / models completed and ready for launch ; 1986: Pirates Launch DELAYED due to success of Castle theme 1989: Pirates theme is launched throughout the world. 1990: America releases the rest of the 1989 Pirates line the rest of the world got in 1989 Are there any other magazines I should be made aware or books that give the full facts? I am NOT considering The Lego Book (all editions) valid due to the enormous amount of errors and how they're hastily organized/published. Edited 15 hours ago by kelceycoe Quote
TalonCard Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Is there any particular reason you're reposting the entire thread from here? I just made some corrections and asked for attribution for scans I originally posted on this forum; no need to repost the entire thread with those sections edited out. This is very peculiar forum behavior. For reference, my original post in that thread: 1 hour ago, kelceycoe said: In my continuation of updating vital Pirate information so everyone has the correct information - especially Influencers - I found a very good reliable source that dispels the full details to how it began. Across the Internet fans had hinted on it but never demonstrated any evidence that connected what we knew to actually how Pirates originated - until now! Depending on how much you've been following these forums and any Pirate origins media - from the wikis to Youtube videos and even magazines, you may continue to think the Pirates theme was conceived back to August 1987 when The Lego Group was drafting The Pirate Comics: The Gold Medallion and The Island of Mist thanks to data and whitepapers collected from SadieMeowsalot through her contact with Pirates designer Niels Milan Pedersen those were from Sadie's contact with Pirates comic author Per Sanderhage, actually. Post 1 Post 2 For ref: Quote "Not sure if this information belongs here, but I just received scans from Per Sanderhage (writer of the 1987 Castle Kids and 1989 The Pirates comics) of an unpublished Pirates comic "The Island of Mist", only it's in Danish so it'll need to be translated to English. I'll upload scans and link to the Brickshelf folder as soon as I can and as soon as it becomes public." "I was originally going to delay posting this until I had more to share with it, but I think I've waited long enough at this point. Within the past few weeks Per Sanderhage has kindly shared with me some more materials tied to LEGO Publishing's Pirates series, including more try-out pages by other artists who applied for the Illustrator role, the original job outline from Preben Dewald, a number of Character Visualization sketches by Per Sanderhage, and a page from the series' synopsis preceding the manuscript." Also I'm glad you found the Brick Fanatics scans I made and linked here useful, but if you're going to reupload them onto your own Flickr account I'd appreciate a link back or attribution, thank you. That's spamming the board and attention-seeking. If you feel you should be attributed or if I don't attribute someone else to your liking then privately message me and I will correct it in the original post so viewers can read the information accurately and not scroll through and find misinformation. Because you obsessively copied and pasted your response to a now deleted post, viewers are given irrelevant information that is ultimately unrelated to the intent of this post. Because of these actions viewers are lead to confusion. What should have been a very simple, nice revelation - Pirates ideation began in 1984 immediately after the launch of the Castle theme - is now diluted and polluted with irrelevant content that ultimately borderlines stalking. At the end of the day, the mention of the previous post and the comic book have no relevance to the topic at hand. So please remove your reply and I will do as well. I'll leave it to the moderators to decide who is obsessively spamming the board, thank you. And "borderline stalking"? That's an incredibly harsh accusation to make over a couple of forum posts about toys. Edited 14 hours ago by TalonCard Quote
Murdoch17 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago You do know the 'edit comment' button exists, right @kelceycoe? Why didn't you just edit your original thread instead of making a new one? Off topic comments are part of why message boards exists - if it gets too out of hand, moderators intervene. Otherwise, why get bent out of shape over something that does not matter in the grand scheme of things? Quote
