Cpt_Flint Posted June 24, 2025 Posted June 24, 2025 Hey! So I introduced myself a couple of days ago showing to you my past projects. I mentioned that I planned something big for the future. So here it is, first photos of a project that was on my mind for some time already - HMS Victory in minifig scale. First, a few details: I've assumed a 1:40 scale. Due to the nature of LEGO bricks and certain technical limitations, I’ll be adjusting the scale where needed — allowing for deviations of around 10% or so. At this scale, the hull will be about 1.7 meters long. Because of the size and my desire to showcase the interior, I’ve decided to split the ship into three sections: bow, midsection and stern. I'm not sure if I’ll end up building the entire ship, but my plan for the coming months is to focus on the bow section. I’m OPEN to criticism, so please feel free to share your thoughts and comments! One of the challenges: limited possibilities to represent the curved shape of the bow: Quote
Jack Sassy Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 An impressive start! Are ye planning to keep the black colour for the decks in the future? If so, I would suggest changing them to tan or dark tan, that be more accurate in this case. I be eager to see more progress on this magnificent vessel. Quote

I’m aiming for fully tiled decks — hold in reddish brown, upper decks in tan or maybe dark tan, as ye wisely suggested. I do fear the cost a bit, but who cares. I’ll go with the flow and see where the winds take me! . Quote

Franco Clarke Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 This is an impressive monster of ship, the framing of the hold feels accurate already, capturing the claustrophobic spaces below the waterline. I'm looking forward to seeing this build grow and progress. Quote
Cpt_Flint Posted August 6, 2025 Author Posted August 6, 2025 Hello, Some time's sailed since my last post and I'm happy to show you progress on my project! Not all bricks are perfectly pressed to each other but it's clearly a building phase so I don't care about that at this stage. New bricks order is on the horizon so I might be able to push the project forward. Let me know what you think of it! Quote
Jack Sassy Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 Quite a steadfast progress (or is the time rushing too fast? )! Be I correct in assuming that we are looking at the bow? Quote
HanSime Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 That looks like it's going to be one tall ship indeed! How high do you plan to make the masts? You're building it in removable slices rather than removable decks? Quote

And the progress, well I try to push my projects forward :D 13 hours ago, HanSime said: That looks like it's going to be one tall ship indeed! How high do you plan to make the masts? You're building it in removable slices rather than removable decks? The overall idea is to have three sections: bow, middle and stern. Each of the sections have removable decks, so we have hold, orlop deck, three gun decks (two as of now). I hope that explains it, I'm not sure what do you mean by slices :) About the hights of the masts... Looking at the scale the foremast should have around 1,3m from the quarterdeck to the top. It's going to be complicated to do it but these are problems for the future :D Quote

Cpt_Flint Posted December 9, 2025 Author Posted December 9, 2025 Ahoy everyone, long time no see! I’ve been caught up with a lot of land-based duties, but since my last post I’ve been trying to push the shipyard work forward as regularly as possible. Step by step I’ve been adding new sections and as of now we have: The hold – visible stores, ballast, a few rats feasting on supplies, the light room, the powder magazine and the small room for preparing powder charges. Front part of the orlop deck is finished as well. Cross-section – you can see the orlop deck (for now just a “sketch”), plus the lower, middle and upper gundecks (already fitted out) Officers’ council on the forecastle Side view – with visible guns and rigging Rigging close-ups – the masts and yards are set at an angle on purpose, to match the current docking display There’s a good chance that next year the size of the base will increase, which should let me continue the project toward the final, planned dimensions. The main goal is to finish the foremast, complete with rigging and sails. In the future I may carry on by adding the central and stern sections. As far as possible I try to build to scale, using books and online sources as reference. Of course, with LEGO there are some compromises. Even so, I’m aiming for functional rigging and proper proportions. The yard positions are adjustable and, in the future, the sails will be fully furlable — just like on a real man-o’-war. I am very curious of your comments and constructive criticism :) Quote
idlemarvel Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 I'm not a Lego shipbuilder but I have visited the Victory several times. Your model is simply astonishing. The scale, the size, the attention to detail, all add up to an amazing model. I look forward to the finished article. Quote
