Thirdwigg Posted May 24 Posted May 24 (edited) As May comes to an end, I should be doing some school work. Add to the fact that my building has been a little stagnate, I thought participating in a TC challenge seemed like a good idea to distract and get creative. I went through my Pinterest folders, and found a little tractor that checked all the boxes for me and fit the requirements of the contest: Tracks? Check. Tractor? Check. Some fun functions? Check. The ability to add way to many interchangeable attachments? Check. Unimog? We'll let that slide this time... The Prinoth T-Rex 300mt seemed like a perfect fit. Also, this one tractor is a little new to me, so the challenge sounded a little fun and would allow me to explore a machine that I know little about. Plus the idea of having a feller head, a mulcher head, and a grapple bucket all sounds kindof fun. The black seems to be a little plain, but maybe I can come up with another color or something. Anyway, starting with the tracks always takes more time than it should. There is always a little more slack than I would like, and the tracks are never the perfect shape. So after a couple of tries, I came up with the following setup. Then after about 6 more tries, I was able to find a carrier that was strong enough to would work for the project. I made three more for the chassis, then threw a first draft together to check the size and scale to start drafting the mechanical placements. The next step for me is to design the quick change head. I have some ideas, but nothing in place yet. Once that is done, I'll work on the lift and tilt mechanisms. Then I'll work on the controls (everything will be manual, naturally). Then the engine and rear winch. Finally, I'll work on the body work. We'll see how this goes... Edited Saturday at 08:48 PM by Thirdwigg Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Am I the only one who thought you're gonna build a literal dinosaur running on tracks after seeing the thread's name for the first time I was thinking of something like this. Quote
Thirdwigg Posted May 24 Author Posted May 24 It is a funny name... But nope. Just another tractor. Quote
Thirdwigg Posted Saturday at 08:47 PM Author Posted Saturday at 08:47 PM Alright, I'm not going to be able to finish this build in time for the contest, but I have set it aside for later completion. But I still wanted to build something, and contests are a lot of fun for me. And since there are a lot of tracked dumpers, I decided to make one of those, but tiny. I threw some ideas together in Studio... Then I put it together in real bricks. It's a simple design with moving tracks, tipping bed, and a cab door. I think I can get this done in two days. Quote
Jundis Posted Saturday at 09:30 PM Posted Saturday at 09:30 PM I feel you... still a fun model :-P Quote

I'm grateful for all the things, and even the little time I can build. OK, the build is not perfect, but it's done. I'll release instructions soon enough. We'll see if I get a video together. The build features: Moving tracks Cab door Tilting bed Rear tailgate Quote
1980SomethingSpaceGuy Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Now these are cute little tracks! Sorry you had to ditch the T-Rex, hope we'll see it one day. Kudos for switching to low gear and still deliver a build for this TC! Quote
Thirdwigg Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago Thanks @1980SomethingSpaceGuy, I'm glad you like this little build. I'll get back to the T-Rex at some point, but the low gear was the best option for right now. Yeah, I couldn't miss a contest, even if it's not my best work. Quote
