Several years back, I bought a used 8880 Super Car, which didn't come with instructions.  Before I built it, I found a paper copy.

In the meantime I downloaded the instructions from Peeron/PICSL and had them printed and bound.

I've built the car a number of times, but never used the downloaded instructions.  I am now building the car again, and this time using the downloaded instructions (spiral binding is great, the book stays flat and you can fold it back on itself).

I have now got to a page with handwriting on it, that I cannot read - my german?  is not very good.

Can anyone make sense of the below pictures, or can translate?

Is this a MOD to add HOG steering to this model?

Let me try:

"schwarz" = black

"obere Halterung für die längere Lenksäule: (kommt von unten aus hintere(m) Ende des Daches)(siehe nebenan)"

--> Upper mount/bracket for the longer steering column: (comes from below from the rear end of the roof) (see next page)

"10er Lenksäule (zwischen Motor und Fahrerkanzel)"

--> 10L steering column (=axle, I presume) (between engine and driver's cockpit)

"keine Lochplatte"

--> use the corresponding plate without holes

Well the 8880 had a hog steering out of the box it was located on the engine room:)

This looks like a MOD to get the HOG steering wheel (little black wheel with tire) higher up, almost on the roof of the cabin. The original build had this wheel just above the engine, and you had to reach inside a bit to reach it. I imagine that it would be hard to reach with bigger (adult) hands, prompting this MOD.

Yes, I think you're correct.  The HOG is a bit low and awkward to operate.  I have all the extra pieces lined up on the table, so will have a go and see what it does.

Vaguely interesting to see what notes somebody made themselves perhaps 30 years ago... but you could also just use the official uploaded instructions.

I've got the original book, just wondered what this mod was.  Going to have a go.

Funny, I also downloaded the same instructions for the 8880 that I got recently. Did yours also have extended exhaust tips? I made a video on the set and one of the commenters pointed to an error in the instructions that prevent the rear hatch to fully close. Any idea what this error could be?

Can you link me those specific instructions and what the commenter said about an error?
I can probably find out, since I have the original model without any issues of the hatch closing. But originally the exhausts are short and deep under the model and don't go anywhere near the hatch at all.

[edit] I found your YT channel and your build video. Your hatch looks completely fine. Considering how the hatch is built, there's no small change you could make to make it close further, and I doubt that was intended. As it is, the long horizontal beams are in closed state a perfect extension of the horizontal beams of the doors. The top beams are stretched to their maximum length. And the lowest bricks on the back rest just on those 2 slopes.
