Indeed, it’s a mentality I really cannot get behind. Like the people who skipped the first two episodes of Squid Game S2 to get to the games. So much important set-up they’re missing! :hmpf:

That said, I can somewhat understand the mindset of skipping anime-exclusive episodes/arcs (actual filler) simply because they are not relevant to the overall plot as dictated by the manga. Personally, I’d still watch them since even filler can be entertaining!

It is an intimidating number of episodes (and from someone who's favourite show is over 60 years old and ongoing ( well with several breaks)) but I won't be skipping any, I don't really understand why people skip episodes, I mean on rewatch it makes sense, but on first watch I mean.

I'm currently on episode 850. I've been watching it for the past 5 years or so. There are some arcs/episodes I would say are ok to skip. But it would number in the dozens. Overall it's an investment in time that I would say has paid off and I would do it again. The character development and story-lines that pay off are so good.

Check out the OnePieceLiveAction subsection of the usual place! There are promos up where live-action Luffy (Inaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd), and Zoro (Mackenyu) review the LEGO sets - it's very much the characters not the actors doing the reviewing (well except that with Godoy/Luffy you can't really tell :-)). Nami does the Battle of Arlong Park, Zoro does Buggy's Circus Tent and the Going Merry, Luffy does Windmill Village and the Merry again.

Nami complaining about Arlong standing right next to "her" and why did they have to include Nami's chains but hey at least you can destroy the pagoda is hilarious. And so's Zoro stealing Luffy's hat (deadpan: "I'm Luffy now") and knocking over the Sanji minifig (deadpan: "This is how I feel right now").

EDIT: Usopp's (Battle of Arlong Park again) and Sanji's (Baratie) promo are up as well. Usopp's is kind of meh but then I don't like the character much. Sanji's take on Sanji and the fancy egg dish vs. Zeff is fun, although I'm surprised he didn't use the duel in order to get in a dig against Zoro.

Bottom line: check those out!

Also I think that's a first for LEGO, actors in character endorsing the sets. Has that ever been done before? If not, what do we think it means for the future of One Piece Live Action and the LEGO One Piece theme? I mean those promos most have cost a pretty penny.

I'm very excited that the OP sets seem to be a smash hit even before release today. Maybe there's a real shot at another wave even without a S2 release?

Posted

I wouldn't mind seeing another larger ship, either Garp's ship (Could include him, Bogard, Luffy and maybe a few others?) Or Miss. Love Duck. (Alvida, Luffy, Koby and a couple generic pirates.)

Syrup Village could be an option too. Merry, Kaya, Kuro and maybe a shipyard build?

The leakers have already confirmed another wave next year a while back ^^

Right, but since S2 is early next year it could very well just be that.

I don't know if it counts as spoiler but

Spoiler

Given this sunday it's the One Piece Day and supposedly we will see the giants (Netflix is hinting at something really big for One Piece Live ActIon) then I guess it is fair to assume one of the sets for next year should be Dorry and Brogy brick built figures. If that is the case, I'm pretty excited because the Kyohei Pirates are so cool and they showing up in Egghead arc was epic!

Netflix released a video of Oda being introduced to the sets out so far:

Very cute, though I can't help but feel a little heartbreak when I hear him say that he's been saving a bunch of sets "for retirement". I suppose the life of a weekly mangaka doesn't leave much time for other hobbies...

Seems the way the tiles are randomised is really poor.

I pulled 4 Don Krieg from Going Merry, and 2 from the Bartie so far. Others have reported 3-4 of the same in a single set.

Here's hoping I don't get a bunch of Don Kriegs :sceptic: I'm really looking forward to collecting all of the wanted posters and don't want to have to buy some off Bricklink just because I end up with tons of a single character. For context, I'll be buying all the system sets within the next couple months.

They might still include more in the S2 sets, like they did with the chocolate frog cards and the portraits in HP!

Then again, they may also introduce new posters in those sets

No Luffy.

I chuckle every time people say they got his poster in the worst possible set :laugh_hard:

I haven‘t opened my copies yet despite them having arrived last Monday, since I wanted to save the best for last, and so decided to build everything else first :snicker: A week later and I‘m still not done! Only Mecha Team Leader, the Quinjet, Batmobile, Doc Ock Train, and the Botanicals left before I will finally build them :excited:

Bought Partys Bar recently, really cute set. I love it. Got Alvida's poster.

I'll also buy the Going Merry when it's on a bigger discount, but I do hope I won't end up with a bunch of the same posters.

This is why I hate this mechanic—it absolutely doesn't work for regular sets, and proves to be more annoying than fun.

I didn't got Luffy wanted poster neither Buggy wanted poster :c

Anyways, topic aside, I guess the most obvious choices for next year sets are:

1. Dorry and Brogy brick built figures set

2. Laboon set

3. 18+ Loguetown set

4. Battle at Whiskey Peak set

5. $30 Smoker's bike set

6. A ship (maybe Garp's battleship)

I like your choices, but there’s no way they‘ll skip Drum Island  We need Chopper stat!

I really hope they do a ship each wave, but given the source material I don't think there's really any great ships unless there's something that wasn't in the manga. I know Garp is in the next season but given the teaser it looks like he might have a minimal role. Maybe Smoker's ship would be a good replacement? I'd love to get some generic marines as well.

If we get anything close to this years wave, I think we can guarantee there'll be a Drum Castle. Laboon is also a shoe-in.

It seems like this has been a massively popular wave so I really hope it means they go back and do things like Kuro/Kaya's mansion, Alvida, Morgan, or even Krieg.

Has anyone started watching the show after seeing the Lego sets? I’m a couple of episodes in now and am enjoying it thoroughly. Might even pick up the two smallest sets.

It feels so refreshing seeing a brand new licensed theme where both the builds and minifigures are top-notch. There’s not a single set in this wave that looks half-baked or phoned in IMO.

I really hope we get some generic Marine combatants in the next Wave.

Not necessarily as a battle pack, but sprinkle them in here and there to get a few when you buy all/many sets.

Just built the three smaller sets (plus the two BrickHeadz) and love them all  The attention to detail is incredible!

Poster-wise, I got two Buggys, two Mihawks, Alvida, and Don Krieg so far. The biggest two sets have nine posters combined, but given how many duplicates in the same sets people have had, I‘d say chances are low I‘m gonna get the remaining four

Off to Bricklink then!

Ugh not Garp again. I love the Netflix adaptation but I do think Garp and Koby got too much screen time in season one to the detriment of everyone else. I was hoping we'd be done with his waffling over whether or not to stop Luffy for at least one season.

That said, consensus over at the usual place seems to be that a February 2026 release date for season two is likely, so let's all cross our fingers that the wait will be over soon!

I'm really not a fan of LEGO doing this (same with the HP chocolate frog cards and then portraits). The randomness completely defeats the purpose of "Collect 'em all". With One Piece it's even worse because while chocolate frog cards are at least supposed to be random even in Canon, storywise you'd really need specific wanted posters for specific settings - i.e. Luffy's poster needs to be at the Baratie; why would Zeff put one up of Kuro or Alvida instead?
