I mean, it is de facto included in the brand new Polar train !!!

I think this set has been started (developing) years ago.

In fact the train motor is the only simple motor left.
Perhaps it will be replaced with a new one?

88009 Train hub now back in stock (EN-GB) at £44.99.  https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/hub-88009

88010 Remote control shows as "out of stock"

88011 Train motor shows as "retired"

In the U.S. 88011 Train motor shows "available" on Lego.com, 88010 Remote control shows "sold out", and 88009 Hub also is available.

I can only assume Lego does not make these parts and instead has an external supplier?  Or, at least Lego does not make the internal parts to these pieces?  If so, could be supplier issues (though by now you'd think they would have been worked out).  I also assume putting these components in sets is a priority over individual sale.  So, if they are short on stock, the components will go into sets first.

As metioned in earlier posts it is likely to be batching issues rather than supplier issues. They'll order a batch from the supplier, most of which ends up in production sets, any spares are for customer support (i.e. replacing broken parts) and PAB.

It would be interesting to know if the Train motor in the Polar set has a different part numbers from earlier motors? Component changes internally might mean a new Part Number is allocated, even if the external appearance and behaviour hasn't changed.

The part number is the same in the new Polar set #60470 as it was in the Freight Train set #60336, namely 6214559.

Same part then. No reason why it should be retired given that they're still producing it for a set. They will have spare stock for Customer Support purposes, maybe they're holding onto that stock for Customer Support rather than adding it to PAB.

As is often discussed each time there is a new product release, the cryptic messages that emanate from TLGs ordering systems may or may not reflect the reality of what is actually going on on the inside

I also lean towards the theory TLG will replace the train motor in the near future. Polar train might be the last set using the current part number 6214559, hence they avoid stocking/selling additional train motors as set 88011.

If TLG does release a new train motor, I’m hoping for a smaller single axle motor with a lil more torque than the current one

Would it still be Powered Up? I kind of wish they'd have powered rails but with Powered Up benefits. I hope FXBricks releases a PU adapter cable.

BevinsBricks sells a metal wheel power pickup so you can use a Powered Up or Power Functions train motor powered by 9V tracks.  I've thought about buying a set, but I've got plenty of 9V motors at the moment and only a handful of PuP/PF train motors.
