blondasek Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Well, on one hand I do understand Lego - they do not want to do the same things over and over again, i.e. construction vehicles which are not different in terms of functions. On the other hand, currently they are basically doing that but with cars... I assume that the cars are easier to sell. Market did change and if they see the increased number of sales in the automobile section it is understandably. I do not mind cars if there is anything interesting in addition to them. Which, unfortunately, is not. I did have high hopes for Volvo Excavator but it looks like wheel loader is the golden set this year. With all the new parts I hope for a proper backhoe loader as Volvo have them and they would fit the scale pretty well. On top of that - I have no idea what they could actually do to appeal to us and to the wider audience. Another 42043? Quote

dr_spock Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Cars are everywhere. I see them every day and avoid getting run over by them. Construction machines, not so much. I've only seen one GBC type machine using small bowling balls at a science museum. Folks may want to recreate what they see often in real life in LEGO. At the end of the day, LEGO is a business. They'll take the road that'll make the most easy money. Quote
pleegwat Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Last year's overarching theme was space, and we got some nice sets out of it. This year was F1, which was always going to be 'even more cars' for technic. We'll see what we get next year. Quote

[Will be happy to be proven wrong] Apparently Technic is busy breathing life into other themes; notably the City Theme. Edited June 27 by thekoRngear Quote
Nazgarot Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Well, 42209 was amazing! A really good parts pack and one of the most complex and compact official sets I've ever built even though the functions are quite basic. I recomend it for anyone who likes compact builds with lots of complex building techniques! If this is a sign of what is to come I'm thinking we have a lot good coming. I clearly prefer these kind of sets over large empty RC sets that have a super high price, but very little complexity... Both the large RC bulldozer and the large RC crane was bummers for me. To expensive an felt like I build hollow models that could have been much more... Quote

Yeah, some of the best technical functions lately have been in other themes, aside City there's been many sets in the Icons theme, like 10323, 10327 and 10363 with some nice functionality while majority of Technic is "Speed champions with fake engines and steering". 8 hours ago, Nazgarot said: Well, 42209 was amazing! I haven't yet built 42209 myself (bought it but have had too busy of a June) but it for sure seems to represent everything that Technic as a theme should be. But it's just one set among two dozen and the rest don't really live up to the Theme's title. There has been a couple of nice sets every year but there could be so much more. I agree that the huge RC sets aren't really ideal especially with the PU implementation, and non-RC motorized sets (like 42145) pneumatic sets (like 42128) are much more interesting. I hope to see more of those along with the likes of 42209. Quote

Them Icons sets are prolly giggling at half the sets released so far in 2025 and, alarmingly have been posing threats in terms of amazeness. True the Volvo Loader is a fresh breathe but one relatively smaller set sadly cannot defend alone, he needs err..companion. The Icons you mentioned- well everytime I saw them in reviews I wanted to rush out here and say hey that thing has awesome Technic elements/functions! Same cannot be happening to most sets of a release wave/window in Technic theme. Personally and objectively I also liked the Nissan Skyline for H1 ‘25. It’s my first order since 2023. But then again twooh is still not enough. For this decade being gone halfway I will crown the 42145 Airbus as the king of complexity and functional marvel. Half the decade gone and only a few sets are being remembered talked about stirred crazy posts and caused MOCers to come up and throw beautiful creations one after another 🤦♂️ Part reason could be developing and releasing same type of vehicles in a short period of time. The F1’s, the 1 too 5 bikes could be examples. The interest drops too soon. The latest Ducati is not seen in the scenerios that much howevr, look at its build and functions- nothing that falls short of quality (at least that’s what I believe). Varieties with depth and proper sense of scaling can be done, not to just Agriculture/construction themes. The Space Theme has been good. The ‘21 HD Tow Truck needs her successor sooner. I have built it in ‘21 Dec and to this date she still functions as awesomely as I please. The very lil sets also been doin’ somewhat fine Edited June 28 by thekoRngear Quote
