Hi guys and gals,

a set I always saw and adored but never owned is the 8436 truck with multiple attachments. In combination with the glorious 62.4 tires from the Arocs set (which will be represented by the 43.2 narrow tires for this TC), this will be my choice for the shrinking contest.

For now, I started with the chassis and light, which is very straight forward:

Sadly, the smaller 3x3 tapered panels for the side skirts behind the front wheels aren't available in red .. I'll order them in black 2403.t1.png, but maybe use the even smaller panels 2387.t1.png

Fake V6 engine is planned and also pneumatics as in the original model.

What I am unsure is, if I will do all 3 attachments like the real model or only one of them (maybe the hook or the claw).

Nice, this set is really going to benefit from the panels that weren't available back then. Looking forward to a modern interpretation!

Good set choice, and a good start so far. Looking forward to the rest of the project. Doing each of the attachments would be cool.

Thanks, Kyle! I'll try, although for the car transport attachment, I need a lot more beams and for the other two crane arm I may need 2 big cylinders... hmm...

This is one set I really regret selling, I am keen to see how you go with this.

Thanks guys! Here is some progress, first parts already arrived. I really don't like the black side panels... have to try with red smaller ones on the weekend.

Good progress and nice idea with the 'picture hanger' (67139)

Thx :-)

Progress has been made:

The small cylinders are definetely to weak for the crane, so I have to use the bigger ones. On the other hand, the claw could be done with 1 big and 1 small, the transporter pack could be done with small cylinders :D

I am still unhappy with the sideskirts, but other variants are also not that perfect:

The left and right ones are nearest to the original, but I tend to like the middle one better...

That looks very cool already. What part did you use for 5th wheel? I mean this 5x3

It's this one, normally used as a picture hanger: 67139

The middle part looks best indeed

Thanks Igor! It's settled then :-)

Now two more attachments have to be built... problem is the big blue pump... maybe I'll switch to the older one instead...

That looks really good, now I start wondering if maybe this was the way to go to appease jury :D

Because it seems like this model at this scale is an easy choice, but at the same time you can re-make it perfectly, and choosing a target model and the scale is also part of the challenge...

Second attachment is ready. I now go with small and medium sized cylinder and will try so with alle the other attachments. Small cylinders are way to weak to lift even a crane arm, let alone this wheel lift.

I tried to simplify all the connections, but included a small turntable, which imho fits better than the wobbly pin-connection. Also attached an 12t gear with a friction pin to keep in upright when in upper position (first and second pic).

Also the cab was change, black part in the back now with half beams to closer match the look of the original. The routing of the hoses is always a challenge in smaller models. Maybe I'll redo them. What do you guys think: On the upper side like in the real 8436 or under the arm?

I just noticed that most of the sets with a tow bar have it implemented in a non-functional way either because there is no tilt for steering with the towed vehicle attached or because of lack of clearance for the bumper area in front of the wheel.

If you were to put some model at the matching scale on it, the small turntable and its attachment above would be too close to the front of that car. The closest to working properly, I think, is what is there in 42008 Service Truck, but you'd tilt the towed vehicle, it'd start touching the arm at the corners. I wonder whether we should care about this being functional at all...

That's right, I wouldn't built it in this way if I designed it from ground up. Haven't any car in that scale at hand to test it. Would maybe only work with a the 42122, but these front tire are too thick :D

@Jim Can you please add my video, too?

Of course. I knew I had to add another one, but didn't remember which one.

Done.
