Governor Mister Phes Posted July 23, 2005 Governor Posted July 23, 2005 Its definitely not in its prime anymore... But its cosmetic surgery of late has improved its appearance slightly. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 I'm wondering if there will be any 50th Anniversary Sets other than a bulk tub with gold brick. Seems that Lego should definately release a special set of some kind. I'd love to see a special Legend or City Set from the past, maybe even a historic monument of some kind commemorating the event. Cyclonis Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Hey actually I read this a while back, so give all the glory to me!!! ;) Just kidding. Woo! Party! Now if only lego were to re-release old Castle sets...but of course they aren't going to do that! I'm gonna go spread this news over at C-C. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Yellow Castle would be a great set. I've got an old one but it would still make a great anniversary set. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 24, 2005 Governor Posted July 24, 2005 That's already been released as a Legend within the past few years though. Would be nice to see another set have a turn. Quote
jonfett Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 The Yellow Castle? As far as I know, it hasn't been released as a Legend. Jon. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 24, 2005 Governor Posted July 24, 2005 I could have sworn I saw it on S@H a couple of years bakc, maybe not as a Legend but I've seen it re-released somewhere... I must look into this... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 The yellow castle was not re-released. If I remember correctly, at the time, a number of sets were being voted for and something won over the castle. Maybe black falcon's fortress or Main Street. - don't remember which. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Looks like a few special buckets have been released. See other post. Anniversary Sets Quote
Wolf04 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I wish LEGO would keep the System name. Brings back great memories. Long life the dead System line! Quote

Now I remember... It was the Black Seas Barracuda.. Quote
Hobbes Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 It was the Black Seas Barracuda.. Over the Yellow Castle?!?!?!? OUTRAGE! SACRILEGE! BLASPHEMY! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 23, 2005 Governor Posted August 23, 2005 Hobbes, what are you on about? Everyone knows pirate sets are better than castle sets. The one advantage of cancelling the Pirate theme when it was is less chance for producing crappy sets. So maybe LEGO thought lets quit on a high note. Just look at Castle. It keep going. I've observed many who don't think much of castle from about 1996 onwards... Quote
Hobbes Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Hobbes, what are you on about? Teasing you? Everyone knows pirate sets are better than castle sets. I've observed many who don't think much of castle from about 1996 onwards... To me "Castle" is "Classic Castle". That weird line that's been going since the mid-1990s is not "Castle". Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 23, 2005 Governor Posted August 23, 2005 No! Its all classic castle up until Knights Kingdom. You can't say its not castle just because you don't like it after a certain year. Quote
Hobbes Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 You can't say its not castle just because you don't like it after a certain year. Of course I can. Quote
The Middleman Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 The classification system on Bricklink disagrees with you... Ninja, KK1, and KK2 are not in the 'classic castle' section. Hence 'classic'. Vikings is actually counted as a separate line. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 23, 2005 Governor Posted August 23, 2005 BrickLink is but one website... It can think what it likes. Another website may tell you differently. BrickLink aint no official LEGO site so blah to it. But I said everything up until Knights Kingdom. Therefore KK1 and KK2 are not included, and ninja I didn't include because I forgot about them and they're not really a castle theme anyway. Quote
Hobbes Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 That is "Castle"! Pic1 Pic2 Pic3 "Back then" the knights all were happy folks and smiling. After they banged their heads in a battle they got together afterwards and had a few kegs of beer - those were the days... Too bad kids today don't recognize the playability of sets like that. Everything has to be "fast" and "cool" |-/ My knights even went to battle by train - I just didn't care about historic relevance, the themes fit together and that was the fun in playing with LEGO... but I'm digressing... PS: I know I could have linked to PICSL or any other instructions site and everybody knows the classic castle sets anyways, but I "stumbled" upon those while doing my daily "brickshelf-roam" and thought they would emphasize my $0.02... Governor Mister Phes Posted August 25, 2005 Governor Posted August 25, 2005 Ah yes Hobbes, very good! You've shown us some 1980's Castle sets. Is 6086 Black Knight's Castle not a castle set too? Quote
Hobbes Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Ah yes Hobbes, very good! You've shown us some 1980's Castle sets. Of course. As much as many at TLG don't want to hear it, the 1980s were LEGO's "Golden Age"... Is 6086 Black Knight's Castle not a castle set too? It's missing a bit of "the old charm" (I don't like the black walls) but I guess you could call it "Castle". The minifigs are similar to the classic knights. So, yeah, I guess that one's "Castle". And before you rummage around for similar sets - it looks to me that after 6090 is from where it went downhill with "Castle". But that's only my $0.02... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 25, 2005 Governor Posted August 25, 2005 But the point I'm making here is the 90's castle sets are also considered Classic Castle. Unless there is a particular year that the majority of Castle fans unanimously agree as the last year of Classic Castle. But I have heard of no such year. Quote
