The Neighborhood Merchant Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 The Classic Space Mobile Lab 6901-1 set from 1980 has always been among my favorite classic space sets, so I had to do it justice and try reviving it with some flair. I only have the digital build for now, but I'll finish it in bricks one of these days! The crawler has a full interior and detachable lab area, which I will showcase in brick form once it's finished (just had to design it using old gray, ha!) Professor Thaum Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Very nice MOC. Very febrovery . the small one one is funny. But I would like to see more pics of the big, for sure ! Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 This thing certainly looks like it could take on some heavy terrain, nicely done! Quote
The Neighborhood Merchant Posted February 28, 2023 Author Posted February 28, 2023 @Professor Thaum Thank you, Thaum! The miniature version of the mobile lab was fun to build. Looking forward to sharing more photos to you of the build once I'm able to finish it in brick. @Umbra-Manis Ha, I'd hope so, although I think the little one may have difficulty in the dunes... Appreciate the kind words! Quote
JulianH Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Very nice. I really like oversized rovers. Great work! Can’t wait to see it in brick form. Personally I’d probably stick to red for the wheels only. I like the subtlety of space rovers that are fully in gray. Quote
The Neighborhood Merchant Posted February 28, 2023 Author Posted February 28, 2023 So glad to hear you like it @JulianH! Fingers crossed I can finish it in bricks. Yeah, I am totally conflicted with the additional red accents. Didn't look crowded enough without it, but too much with. Will have to see what the difference is in-person when I start building. Thanks for the input! Quote
Brickshipyard Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Wonderful details all around! Great integration of that tricky classic space dome. I like the very modern and oversized technic wheels - the tread pattern convinces this baby is all terrain :). Quote
The Neighborhood Merchant Posted March 1, 2023 Author Posted March 1, 2023 Thanks @Brickshipyard! It was a lot of fun working with those wheels. Glad you like it! Now the true challenge will be finding that the old trans-green dome in a decent condition... Forgot to comment on your post, but I love your Multi Purpose Striker by the way. What a superb build that stays true to the original space police design Quote
Brickshipyard Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Cool Neighborhood Merchhant! I appreciate that - it was fun to enter that contest and without much time left I came up with the Striker design that's good enough to stay built and in my SP Fleet haha. You know, always a positive sign for your MOC when you don't destroy it after the contest or w/e purpose. Anyways, I will look for your rover when you build it in real bricks! You should consider making instructions for Rebrickable too. Lastly, since you love some big rover action, check out my Futuron Titan rover in my Flickr from 2020 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49602382287_156fe4db6d_k.jpg :). Cheers! Quote
