Side Dump Truck alt build of the 42116 Skid Steer Loader. This is my first MOC so there is some shoddy build quality in a couple of places. I don't know if this was due to inexperience in MOC-ing, but this took me several evenings to figure out and make it into acceptable quality after getting the rough idea in my head. I've been building vintage studded Technic sets since I was a kid, but coming up with your own design, especially with a different system of pieces, was especially challenging. I've got to admit that in contrast to the mostly disappointing modern Technic lineup, I've been loving some of the recent 10 euro sets. They are true to the old Technic spirit of functionality and reusability, and the community behind them is huge.

Anyway, enjoy the free instructions here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-136872/johnny.tifosi/42116-side-dump-truck/#details :)

Functions:
-Hand of god steering
-Worm gear driven dumping bed.

Spare parts used:
1x black bush, 1x Pin without Friction Ridges.

But ... but ... where does it dump to? On the chassis of the truck?

The bucket is aligned with the chassis as you can see in the last photo.

I've come to love this tiny set, it's just so versatile. This my third alternative build of the 42116 Skid Steer Loader, the Telehandler. For this MOC I copied extensively the official 42133 Telehandler set. This build features three functions:

  • Hand of God steering
  • Lifting fork via worm gear mechanism
  • Tilting fork via a lever.

This build uses two spare black bushes. Free instructions here:

This is my fourth alternative build of the 42116 Skid Steer Loader set, the Excavator. I always prioritize functionality over appearance, so it may look a bit crude but I tried to replicate a real life excavator's arm movements. This set has 4 functions:

  • Real wheel hand of god steering
  • Lifting boom via worm gear mechanism
  • Upper arm rotation via a lever and gears with a low end limit.
  • Rotating bucket

I'm glad you like them, I've had tons of fun with just 10 bucks for this set. I think it was overlooked but it is really great and versatile. The bucket and 6 gears make for a lot of possible builds, and it inspired me to trying MOCing for the first time. I'm out of new ideas for the time being, maybe I'll try with the new 42148 snow groomer I got last week.
