Images are out there and it's a tank but it's "cartoony" enough to avoid the "no military vehicles" stuff.

Also, they hilariously call it a “vehicle” rather than a tank :snicker: Not sure what this means for a potential Megatron Icons set, if anything!

I kinda like the loophole of LEGO making a tank mode Megatron product without officially referring it as a “tank”. I still want LEGO Beast Wars products, though.

It's G1 Megatron but they've gone with the Tank which is not G1. I'm not mad at it though if it means we're getting a Lego Megatron in Brickheadz and potentially Icons in the future.

I am a bit surprised there isn't a Brickheadz Soundwave releasing at a similar time like they did with Optimus & Bumblebee

Which Transformers could be next?

With this Megatron Brickheadz, perhaps he may be next for Icons. Then Soundwave will be the next Brickheadz. But then who would be after those?

Maybe another Autobot?

I could see Grimlock being next. Should be fairly easy to make a transforming version of that.

That would be really cool! Especially in T-rex mode!

Yeah, I think this shows they're OK doing Tank Megatron so long as the tank looks cartoony (or cybertronian) enough. I would suspect he's on the horizon.

I think Megatron, Starscream, and Grimlock are the most likely options for the next few years. Beyond that, I have no idea- that's the "big three" from each main faction. Shockwave is the next most famous, but as with most themes I assume lego will skew on the hero side and want more autobots. I'm sure they want to make some female transformers, but unless they want to make something that looks like Missing Link Arcee, they're going to have trouble doing one that can actually transform. Similarly, they'd have trouble expanding into Bayverse or Beast Wars without losing the transformation ability.

At the gargantuan scale they've been doing, I'm not sure that we have more than 3-4 left. Your average Ironhide or Ratchet won't be moving $170 sets. I think lego has the technical ability to do a mainline transformers theme with a $30 bumblebee, $40 optimus, etc, but either they don't have that much confidence in themselves, or they don't think there's enough of an audience for it.

Perhaps Rodimus? Or Ultramagnus?

If Lego found a way to make a Devastator, then all the Transformers fans would go crazy!!! They've done a Voltron before, so why not?

Also, some time back, ShowZ was selling bootleg Lego bricks to make into a, Autobot HQ and it sold out.

With how controversial Hot Rod/Rodimus is among older G1 fans, who lego seems to be aiming at here, I doubt we'd get him anytime soon. If there was a year for it it'd have been this year, but seemingly nothing, not even a hot rod/galvatron brickheadz 2-pack.

Ultra Magnus would be very cool, and is a design that could easily be pulled off (since the transformation is just a bunch of modular bits that attach to an Optimus base), but I think he runs into the same issue of not being iconic enough to sell what would easily be a $300+ set if they wanted to keep it in scale with the rest.

Devastator would be awesome, and I think he would do well, but there's a number of issues.

1. To maintain any semblance of scale he'd have to be wildly expensive, beyond what I think most would pay. We're talking dwarfing the Haslab Unicron prices.

2. Voltron only goes from lions to big robot. Devastator goes from robots to vehicles to big robot, and has a more complex transformation than Voltron. Now lego could possible ignore the individual robot modes to make something happen, but I think you lose a lot of the "transformers" aspect of it at that point.

Not advocating for out of this world price, but when the first third-party masterpiece Devastator came out just prior to covid, it was already around $600-700+ and all the adult collectors went crazy for it! Fast forward to today, go to ShowZ and check out all the Devy series over there. Each bot it $150+++, and you need to complete all six, plus sometimes some add-on upgrades. The point is, if Lego makes it well enough, it would actually sell well to fans who otherwise don't buy Lego.

But first, they have to keep the theme going and continue to build excitement.

Your mention of Unicron has me thinking a Unicron Brickheadz would cool or just the Unicron head in the F1 helmet scale.

If Lego went as far as Ultra Magnus they would have to match him up with Galvatron

Brickheadz Megatron looks cute.

Only thing I am wondering is if they are going to release a Soundwave brickheadz figure as Well. Optimus and Bumblebee also had brickheadz next to their large version

There certainly is a market for extremely expensive, high-quality third party figures. But there are two reasons I think that wouldn't correlate to a $700+ lego Devy

1. Most of the buyers there spend so much rather than the $200ish for the Studio Series Devastator because they want the Best- the most accurate, the most complicated transformation, etc. Lego Devastator would certainly not be that.

2. A lot of those super-expensive third-party figures also have pretty limited production runs, beyond what lego typically does for even their largest sets.

You would end up with a situation where you're grabbing a fraction of a fraction of the sales- specifically people who can drop $700+ on a lego set, $700+ on a transformer, and specifically want a lego transformer. With how incredibly cautious lego is being with this theme- only three sets and three brickheadz- I just can't see it happening.

Unicron head as a "helmet" set would be awesome, I'm surprised we haven't already seen an Optimus "helmet".

Soundwave not releasing alongside Megatron is surprising, to be sure. I would imagine so long as the first three have done/will do well enough, Soundwave and Starscream are next.

Though to be honest, I'm not sure I love the current way lego's handling the theme. The brickheadz are fine, but small and chibi. The Titan-class sized transforming figures are just too big and expensive for me to collect them all. If they made figures where your basic sized transformer was $35ish, I think they could really break into a younger market and get more people to buy characters other than the big 7.

Whilst the huge transforming figures are reaching masterpiece-level quality (Soundwave especially), I would 100% love a minifigure-based set under the icons line. Imagine a UCS-level build of the Ark with minifigures of the Autobots and Decepticons

Ok, I get your point. But let me then pivot...

Yes! Let's just have minifigs as representations of some Transformers characters!!! I am a big minifig fan!!!

Given that I've now done a few MOCs this is definitely one I'd like to try, and for it to be transformable too (like my Blaster and Megatron).

LEGO does not make "war sets" BUT they do Star Wars sets. It is very hard to understand why they can make a tank but not a gun. OR maybe we get Megatron next and other transforms to MASSIVE GUN...

In that respect Galvatron would work very well, as he was a futuristic gun emplacement. But he's not really as well known as Megatron, Starscream, or Jazz etc

I don't mean to shoot you down, I just don't think it's likely.

Absolutely, those would be awesome. It'd be nice to get a CMF slot for transformers minifigures, if lego could make that work- it'd let us get all the new molds they'd require.

I think my ideal lineup would be, presuming 12 minifigures and no minifig-including sets to overlap with it:

Optimus Prime (Molded helmet and armor, comes with 1x1 Matrix of Leadership on 1x1 plate with handles on both sides, as well as builds for his  blaster and energon axe)

Megatron (New molded arm that includes a connection point for the Fusion Cannon, new molded helmet. Includes a purple lightsaber and blaster for his gun mode)

Bumblebee (Molded helmet, comes with blaster and a microfigure of Spike)

Starscream (Molded helmet and wing/chestplate piece with ports for Null-Rays on shoulders. Includes Null Rays and a tile with printed "days since last attempt to usurp megatron" counter- it's at 0)

Ratchet (Molded helmet, comes with handheld med scanner build and blaster)

Soundwave (Molded helmet, brick-built shoulder cannon, blaster, and Laserbeak)

Arcee (Molded helmet, comes with blaster, Daniel microfigure)

Shockwave (Molded head and gun arm. Comes with a book cover piece representing a compouter readout of Cybertron approaching earth)

Elita-1 (Molded helmet, includes blaster and a blast effect for her time powers they forgot after G1)

Thundercracker (Same new molds as Starscream, comes with Null Rays and dog)

Prowl (Molded helmet, door wings are built and attack to a neck bracket. Comes with blaster and a small buildable Devastator figure)

Blitzwing (Molded helmet, molded backpack/chestplate, comes with sword and blaster)

Other likely candidates I could see would be BW Megatron and Primal, Skywarp, Devastator, Astrotrain, Bot mode Grimlock, Ironhide, Wheeljack, etc.

Unfortunately it's very unlikely- lego nowadays attempts to do a 1:1 ratio of male to female characters in their CMFs, and transformers just doesn't really lend well to that given most characters are male. This would also be a bit heavy on new molds, even for a CMF, since everyone needs at least a helmet and many characters need chestplates.

It would be really, really cool to get Ark and Nemesis UCS models. Throw Optimus/Bee/Ratchet/Arcee into the Ark and Megatron/Starscream/Soundwave/Shockwave into the Nemesis.

I'm a little surprised we got Soundwave before him, and very surprised we don't have one this year.

Starscream would be great! Lego could re-release it in different colors for Thundercracker, and Skywarp.

Recolors are a tricky thing for Lego, but it would be nice to see. Or maybe they throw additional faceplate prints in for Starscream (a famously expressive character, to be fair) and we can PAB or bricklink the recolors ourselves much like how- aside from printed parts- we can make characters like Nemesis, Core Magnus, and Bugbite.

I think he's at least Jazz level, but there's still plenty that'd be chosen over him. But if lego wants a form of megatron and refuses to do the true megatron, I could easily see him happening since like you said there's no issues with his alt-mode.

Lego doesn't make sets for *modern* wars- ancient warriors and fantasy/sci-fi wars are fine.
