On patrol in the snowy mountains near the Altonian capital of Ulric, a grenadier plays catch with a lighthearted dog that ran down to the path from a cabin.

A group of dragoners (dragoons) draw their sabers in salute for grenadiere Major Steiner as they attempt to weave their way through the game of fetch.

OOC: Wanted to use the new hotel bellhop torso and dark orange horse for some cavalry. It's been snowing a bunch here in Colorado so I also wanted to take a stab at a snowy landscape. @Ayrlego's recent Altonia figbarf inspired me to try my hand at some NPC troops!

Thought it'd be fun to play around with the legs on the cavalry to make a brick-built "saddle"

It was great seeing this come together and the final product does not disappoint. We don't see much snow in BoBS which is a pity, because it looks great. Bold move using dark orange for the path - it works far better than I would have thought dark orange should in a snowscape! The troops look fantastic - the new sand green bellhop torso is a great addition for building armies from the period. Very nice work and it's great to see an NPC nation being fleshed out.

Beautiful scene! I thought Ayrlego would be the first to make an Altonian scene with his figs, but out of the blue it is you . I like the snowy landscape and the different types of trees you've built here, but it are the figures that steal the spotlight. Gorgeous! The bellhop torsos work so well for the the dragoons. Truly inspiring!

The brick-built saddle is also interesting. I haven't seen that before. Definitely something to keep in mind. I didn't even know there was a dark orange horse available already. I'm lagging behind in the horse department. Lovely to see the NPC nations fleshed out.

A beautiful winter landscape! :pir-love: It looks great how you built the snow in the landscape. Great uniforms and gear.

Whenever I think "He can't come up with something to surprise me anymore", he manages to do so!

That brick-built saddle, damn, what can I say... Amazingly well done! The figures are really good looking too, I saw you remove the print on them on FB, and it's genuinely made me look different at some figures, to see if maybe I could potentially do that in the future too...

All in all, an excellent looking build!

I didn't fully register the brick-built saddle before. A really nice touch. Best attempt I've seen at one yet. I'd recommend using the LBG angled piece instead of the trans-clear one though. It would totally work as stirrups.

The whole scene is a triumph of complimentary colors! Your detailing down to the dirt and little grass sprigs poking out of the snow remain inspirational and that saddle looks like it affords more minifig posing options than the standard fair, so that's a big plus too!

These are some sweet troops!  Love those dual molded dark green dark brown legs, and the landscape is also really well done with some unique color choices too--great use of the more orangish colors for the pathway, I don't think I've seen that in a snowy landscape before!

Excellent landscaping but the minifigs easily steal the show! A first for those torsos and a successful first indeed! Dragoons are spot on and so are the the grenadiers! Brick built saddle is spot on, although I detest removing parts, especially legs. My kids are definitely more experienced than me at such tasks :pir-tongue:

Regarding that horse, I am not sure it does exist in that color (at least not from TLG?), still it looks beautiful and perfectly complements the minifig sand green uniforms. Gief more horses to the people!!! Many (castle) old sets had almost 1:2 horses to minifigs ratio...

PS: I am so glad we have such talented people doing BOBS figbarfs by the way!

@Khorne @Ayrlego @evancelt @Ross Fisher et al, you guys rock!

Thanks @Ayrlego & @Kai NRG! The dark orange was inspired by ground colors I see here in Colorado a bunch. The ground is pretty tan/orange/red and arid / sandy, but then it snows quite a bit on top!

Also thanks for the minifig lightbox tips @Ayrlego - they helped get a white background on the figbarf pic!

Thanks @Khorne! I have a few more ideas to expand on the brick-built saddle so I'll post those soon in another figbarf

Haha thanks @Thomas Waagenaar! Please do use the technique

Thanks. My thinking with the clear angled piece was people could see it and ignore it, so the brown below would be the stirrup under the fig's feet. With LBG it would be harder to ignore!

Well done !

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words @Jeff of Clubs! Like I mentioned on Flickr, here are some tutorial links so you can try out the base yourself. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thanks @blackdeathgr! Like Ayrlego said, it's from the new Horse Transporter set. That set also comes with a horse trailer that includes lots of curved white pieces I am thinking will come in handy for making western covered wagons. I think the horse is also available individually on Bricks and Pieces on lego.com, though not in Greece unfortunately!

I got it for my daughter and swapped the horse for a reddish brown one - she hasn't noticed... yet!

You're an ugly father !

Shame on you !!!

Spoiler

I would have done the same :innocent:

I'm a little late to the party, so I'll mostly repeat what others have said. Good use of the new sand green torso. I like it better for Altonia than for Eslandola. And the brick-built saddle is wonderful!

Great job with the winter trees and general scenic-ing!

All-in-all, much more than a fig barf. Excellent!

Beautiful scene, excellent snowscape and good job with the different types of trees. The dark orange earth reminds me of the red clays in my area, and it looks great. Those minifigs are really good too, and I'm impressed with the sharp focus. And I agree with your take on the horse!

I love snow - what can I say?    We definitely don't see enough of it in BoBS, but you've done a fantastic job with it here!  The dark orange is brilliant too and those new torsos work beautifully for Altonia - lovely job all around, and I'm definitely coming back here for inspiration if I ever get enough dark orange to do a scene like this! :pir-grin:

Thanks @Garmadon! I don't have that much dark orange either so I stuck some DO plates to be the muddier path and used tan for the drier patches. The second half (farther away) of the path is reddish brown simply because I have more plates in that color!
