I have seen a couple of words tossed around for different Lego things. For example: I know what MOC means now (for My Own Creation) but what does AFOL mean?? I am stumped on that one.

Have you ever thought of using Google or similar search engines to search for such terms? Even without adding LEGO to the search, just about all hits are LEGO related.

Out of curiosity, don’t you have to answer the question what does AFOL stand for to join EB? I thought that was the mechanism incorporated into joining EB to ensure that real people (not computer algorithms) are filling out the form, or does the question vary. I may be confusing this with other websites though.

Sometimes there is other random questions generated, I think we implemented something on top after a big wave of spam at some point. Favourite Set, or most recent purchase now, I think.

I think it’s reasonable and normal for people to just ask questions as they go about acronyms and made up words. Not everyone has English or AFOL as a first language, some folk use software to translate or understand text etc. Plus, if you’re anything like me, your daily work life is crammed with acronyms and abbreviations, and sometimes it’s hard to remember when your brain is full.

It must be other sites because I’m an EB member and I’m definitely a bot, not a person.

I have to say that I’m not very fond of the term ‘real person’. There’s a subtext to it that somehow I’m not ‘real’ and therefore my feelings as a member of the algorithmic community don’t count.

@JohnsLegos, Blocks Magazine (print or PDF) includes a glossary of LEGO jargon every month.
