JohnsLegos Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Hi all! I am rebuilding something I made quite some time ago with newer Lego parts and some old ones as well. I recently was on Bricklink looking for a part I needed and only a few sellers had it and some of the prices were waaaaayyyyy too much. After looking on the site in a different area I noticed the pin I wanted (part #4459) was an older part BUT there was a similar part (part # 2780) which looked like a newer pin design. Now I know these pins had a better grabbing power so things would not move (which is what I want) so does the newer pin have a better "holding power" then the older ones?? I am looking to order some soon so your comments mean alot. Thanks!! Quote
brunojj1 Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 The old high friction pins aren´t being produced anymore. I don´t know of any third party product as well. That´s sad, for exactly the reasons you are describing. They have one big disadvantage - smaller kids are not able to pull them out easily. Luckily you can look up in BL which sets include them and I suggest you just buy one of them, used and better incomplete - that could be your perfect bargain. Quote
amorti Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 (edited) MouldKing (also Sembo, or anyone who uses GoBricks pieces) pins are pretty stubborn, on a par with the old Lego pins, I'd say. However... is this perhaps demonstrating a misconception? No matter how strong the pins are, something which is held only by friction is always at risk of pulling out. With modern studless Technic, you should instead look to form-lock anything which is at risk of pulling out. This means putting pieces at right-angles so that the only way the assembly could pull out, is if the locking piece gets split in half. Edited February 1, 2022 by amorti Quote
1963maniac Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Those 2780s are good pins. I sorted out all my older pins so now I only use 2780 pins Old sets may have replaced parts and not have the pins you want. Be sure to ask before buying. Quote
