dickylaban Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 (edited) The set 8445 (Indy Storm) is a beautiful race car, it was the last studded set before lego technic goes studless. I start with the steering system It was the most difficult part to replicate due to its size. Edited June 6, 2021 by dickylaban Quote
fosamax Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Nice choice for that model. You should upload your pics from bricksafe ou flickr for allow us to see something. Quote
Thirdwigg Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 @dickylabanglad to see you are in this contest. Great set choice, and I am looking forward to the progress. Quote
dickylaban Posted June 6, 2021 Author Posted June 6, 2021 @Thirdwigg Thank you. The set is a small set & suit with my building style. @fosamax I have try to upload a photo, but only allow for small size. I'll try to link to my flickr account. Thank you. Quote
Jurss Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 eurobricks is not intended to store pics (that is in forum general rules, in fact). I recommend bricksafe.com Quote

dickylaban Posted June 6, 2021 Author Posted June 6, 2021 (edited) The steering system Edited June 6, 2021 by dickylaban Quote
Scoar Sonander Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 So is that making use of (something like) a torsion bar? Quote
dickylaban Posted June 6, 2021 Author Posted June 6, 2021 (edited) @Scoar Sonander No, Same as the original steering system found in the set 8845. I recreate it with new Technic parts, it has the same turning angle. Edited June 7, 2021 by dickylaban Quote
Jurss Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 It is just hard to fit in that height and width something different in studless build. With studded it is easyer in fact. I'm also now struggling with 8440 Quote
dickylaban Posted June 7, 2021 Author Posted June 7, 2021 @Jurss The steering system is the most challenging section to recreate with the new technic parts, my first picture is still the prototype & it already fully replicate the studded one.(3 stud height) I have do a little modification for the mounting of the surrounding parts. Quote
dickylaban Posted June 7, 2021 Author Posted June 7, 2021 I just try to mount the driving axle for the steering system. To mount this module, I'm planning to replace the axle with a longer one. Quote
dickylaban Posted June 8, 2021 Author Posted June 8, 2021 (edited) The front section already done, the steering system mounted at the same condition as the original set. The steering works perfectly as the original set. I didn't have yellow panels, so I decided to build my entry in white. The engine mounting is rebuild same as the original one but in studless. dickylaban Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 Studded frame in half (top) & the new studless version on bottom. Every position is replicated carefully, the gear box has to be modified due to the new mounting & gears. (but it still has the same position as the original) Quote
dickylaban Posted June 10, 2021 Author Posted June 10, 2021 The Indy Storm has already done in white, I'm not sure if this can be submitted.@Jim : can this qualified as an entry ? Quote
BrickBuildingFox Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 Cool, I can see the similarity to the original... Can you open the hood? Do you use this part or some other mechanism? Quote
dickylaban Posted June 10, 2021 Author Posted June 10, 2021 @BrickBuildingFox No, I use this one : Quote

What do you mean by "has already been done"? Each entry in the contest should be a new entry, not published before. But if someone else has done a similar MOC it's okay. Maybe not the best choice, also since the original is yellow. But that's up to you. Quote

howitzer Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 This doesn't happen often, but I think this build would really benefit from stickers! Easier said than done of course... Quote

Easier said than done of course... Thank you for your suggestion, but unfortunately I'm not the sticker fan. I keep my build clean & I only do color combo when it is possible. Quote
