HorcikDesigns Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 (edited) Well, maybe I will continue with this upscaled classic city set after the contest, but now may this be my chosen one. Even tough the upscale rule recommendation. I'll try to keep it in roughly in 3,75:1 scale and proportions as close as possible, while trying to keep it's classic and cartoony vibe, and adding bit of realism to it. wish me luck. Not sure I will enter the contest with this one, or another entry, but I definitely would like to finish once this "little" buddy that is hardcore nostalgic set for me. Everything you see can be changed if needed, only the front grille is keeper for me for this MOC Edited November 6, 2021 by HorcikDesigns Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted May 27, 2021 Author Posted May 27, 2021 Little update. Reduced the number of beams, added few panels, and engine block. Unusual U scheme, to make things more interesting. But I might go for micro V8 or micro inline 6 in order to save some space inside for water gun turret contol mechanism. cargo space doors will be spring-loaded to imitate the behaviour of the original counterpart. The rear section is just a sketch to get basic idea of the dimensions. The seat is also just a placeholder. Now I have to confess that the truck will have working steering wheel in cab and HOG knob in not-yet specified location. Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted June 8, 2021 Author Posted June 8, 2021 Little progress here. added some mechanics, water gun controls. Two modes controlled by switch - independent or steering dependent water gun rotation, i6 fake micro engine. improved the side doors hoose winch is knob operated still lot work to do, still not sure it is the best model for this contest. The current windshield is placeholder and coloured digitally Quote
Jurss Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Proper representation of orginal. I really like those wheel inserts, they are really in place for this. In technic it would be proper not to have that windscreen. Quote
MangaNOID Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 The trouble, I think, with choosing a systems build for this contest is the differing amount of interpretation to be had. This could be bad for voting. I like your model choice, but I don’t think you’ve given it the real HorcikDesigns finesse yet. If it was on the sales stand I would not buy it as it is. It’s not, ‘Technic’ enough (for me) I don’t mean functions as they seem well sorted! But the looks is too...Panel’d and too many liftarms to fill gaps. My feeling is that it needs a more open look/approach. Like an older styler technic model but with the modern bits of course. I don’t want to get too specific, but I hope this can be seen as constructive criticism Quote

Slightly less "beam stacking" and build it a bit more to reflect modern day Technic sets. I do think you should finish this model, since it definitely contains a lot of good stuff. 5 hours ago, Jurss said: In technic it would be proper not to have that windscreen. HorcikDesigns Posted July 10, 2021 Author Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) Firstly - long awaited comment replies. :)@Jurss I like the wheel inserts here too - they were used on firetruck, and they evoke me 4-spoke pattern of the original city wheels. The windscreen really feels inproper for technic, I know, but the light blue area in front is important part of this set's colour scheme, so omitting it would ruin the retro feel IMHO. It is a matter of taste, and I am aware of it.@MangaNOID Yes, your comment helped a lot :). Rebuilding a city set within contest rules is tough discipline. Maybe I went too much in freestyle field, where I feel more comfortable. I'll probably build another model for this contest (not from city anymore), as I want this MOC to be something that does not fully go with the contest borders. "HD finese" made my day, thank you! But the sun does not shine everyday, all of us build MOCs of altering quality.@Jim Be sure I'll finish this model, but maybe not for this contest, because I really want there that windscreen. :D I went the "upscale it" way, and tried to build the outer case to look like system set in miniature (or while seen from distance), but have full technic chassis inside. Well, these artistic approaches should be put aside for this contest. Update later, but soon. Edited July 10, 2021 by HorcikDesigns Quote

HorcikDesigns Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 @Jim Thank you. :) Well, here is the promised update: Quote
Jim Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Sweet!!! I assume you will be entering this in the contest, right? Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 @Jim Not sure, I have built a second entry candidate, remake of 8286, which I also like, but both models are not finished yet and need some modifications, so I am not still decided. Quote

That is a nice model as well. Tough choice To be honest; the other model is more in the spirit of the contest. That's a prime example of a remake we are looking for. Just sayin' Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted July 11, 2021 Author Posted July 11, 2021 @Jim Thanks. I know, that's exactly why I decided to give another MOC a try. Quote
SaperPL Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 This model is awesome, but it's also a prime example of what you probably shouldn't have done for this contest: medium sized Technic model based off city scale system vehicle adding mechanical functionality where original set didn't really have that using system pieces for important features of the model's look, not only as some critical structural elements. And yeah, you're other model is looking really good, perfectly in the spirit of this contest :) Quote
Thirdwigg Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 This looks great @HorcikDesigns, but I like the 8286 build a little better. Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted July 15, 2021 Author Posted July 15, 2021 (edited) @SaperPL thank you. I am glad you like it. Yes, I know now, many people will vote according these described criteria, but TBH, when the contest was launched, the 'any set from lego history' rule offered to go this way too. Looks like that I slightly misinterpreted importance of the rules. I added functions that mimic functions of the original set, but because of scale, and because modern technic set this size would probably feature functions like that, they have always something extra to them. Modern technic would definitely use an decent amount of system bricks for detailing, IMHO. Personally, I think it is just a matter of taste @Thirdwigg Thanks. Honestly, I like this one more, but I am more satisfied with the 8286 rebuild. Edited July 15, 2021 by HorcikDesigns Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted November 6, 2021 Author Posted November 6, 2021 Ok, update time. What do you think about possibility to have instructions for this MOC? Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Wow, this up scaled project is very cool! Impressive technical implementations! Quote
