hikouki Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I do not quite get the framing of this set. It seems like a confused mish-mash of a frame and a postcard set. Quote

This isn't Architecture at all, and I really feel the line that I've loved for years is goingna direction I can't follow. To me it looks like nothing more than a larger version of the postcards. Nothing about that is Architecture to me. No full building at all. Just facades with a background and stand. I like the new Paris set, but I agree it isn't really what I'd expect in Architecture. It is more Art than Architecture. Quote

It is more Art than Architecture. It’s not even Art. It’s a “souvenir” pastiche of a postcard of Paris. They don’t even shy away from it with the set name. It is exactly what it is, and isn’t really aimed at LEGO fans never mind Architecture aficionados like us here. At 80 euro too, ouch..just like every other tourist trap in that city. Rauy Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I have to say I'm not a fan of it either. As a set, I do like its design and its abstract and moody colour palette. LEGO sets like that live from a certain amount of stereotype and cliché. But it really has no place in the Architecture series, even more so with that cheesy "City of Love" title. I've never been too critical of the Architecture series' reorientation towards tourist sites and I always liked the "normal" Skylines. But with stuff like that I'm afraid they're going to lose me, too. With Neuschwanstein earlier this year already being somewhat of a disappointment in its design it's certainly not a great year for LEGO Architecture sets. And with LEGO's Paris infatuation, you almost start to wonder what next year's Eiffel Tower set will be. Quote
Fairsy Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I've got every set up until this year, but feel like it's totally lost it's way - the Neuschwanstein is just another set that is far too big for what it needs to be, and the Paris one isn't architectural at all. Quote

Whoever signed off on that needs to visit an optician. Ummm... the Eiffel Tower is currently painted yellow-brown just like Gustave Eiffel wanted. What Lego color would be better? What Lego color would be better? Not familiar with what he wanted but the original ET colour was actually red (famously Venetian red). Not tan as depicted here. Since you asked, personally I’d have stuck with the greys used in both the skyline and more recent massive 1m+ tall set. Anyway, the set isn’t a throwback to the C19th, it’s a diorama of modern Paris and so a tan colour Eiffel sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m sure there’s an aesthetic reason just like the pink/flesh bricks in the updated Fontana di Trevi, but still, it looks odd. Edited November 25, 2025 by Lucarex Quote
Lyichir Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 (edited) I think tan looks more appropriate for the look of the "lit" tower in this sort of nighttime cityscape, grey would've disappeared against the dark blue night sky backdrop. Sometimes colors are chosen more based on what a subject feels like in particular lighting conditions than the actual material color of a subject in neutral lighting. For me, it is Sacre Couer that is wrong, it would look better in white as that is always lit up. Quote
