Is this possible? Gnac on this site posted a really useful ldd file of tyres and rims, which made the job of fixing them to axles easier, if still tricky, Now I have united a set of wheels, rims and plates that work, I would like to keep them in ne file as a resource, and copy them to other files whenever needed. Am I missing something?

You can, either:

  • Each time you need them: Save the file you’re working on, open the resource file, select the parts, copy (Ctrl-C) them, reopen your file, paste (Ctrl-V).
  • Each time you need them: Import the resource file (Ctrl-I).  All the parts in the file are imported and “held” by the mouse.
  • Once: Open the resource file, select the parts, open the second tab on the left “Templates,” click the coloured icon on the bottom left.  And then each time you need them: open the “Templates” tab and they are there ready to use.  (The templates are mode-dependent: “normal” and Extended are stored separately.)

You can open the LDD files in Stud.io, export them as LDRAW files. This will convert the files so they can be read by LDCAD or MLCAD.

Of course you have to have these software installed on your PC. Stud.io is from Bricklink.com  LDCAD and MLCAD is from LDRAW.org

You can open the first file in MLCAD, and then use "import model" on the second file with the Mutipart menu.

Let us know how you do.

Guys, I managed to do it using the resource/temporary file. I haven''t tried swapping between programmes yet, but I can open this thread to check it out, thanks.

Are you familiar with Gnac's file with a load of wheels etc? It's kind of seems to have every single wheel available, which is kind of a problem fitting rubber to rim, and rim to lego plate, because I have already discovered they don't all fit together, let alone look good together. Is there a guide with a few of the most popular wheels etc, perhaps twenty combinations. I've  googled, but haven't found yet. I can see wheels becoming a really tedious thing.
