lnong Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 First of all..I'm new here and I did not see a specific forum for Vintage or Space lego sets, so I'm posting in here but please move it if needed. During the early to mid 1980s, my parents bought me a space Lego set having a lunar-ish vehicle that has either 6 or 8 extended arms (3 or 4 on each side). Because of the timeframe, i can assume it's part of the Classic Space collection but over the past few days of googling, i cannot find a single image of it anywhere. I even looked at images in the lego catalogs from 1979 to 1987 and could not find this vehicle. The closest one would be the 6880 Surface Explorer but that only has 2 arms (front and back). The vehicle I had has the same gray tones but is slightly more bulky than the surface explorer. Does anyone here remember, know or have the item im describing? Before you say that I'm probably crazy and that it doesn't exist, let me tell you that about 1 year ago, i did see it on ebay. I even remember having a brief nostalgic moment when i saw it, and i noted the name and lego number for it as well. But i totally forgot about it until now. Unfortunately i forgot the name and number for it as well. I hope someone here knows the item I'm trying to look for. (And also why it doesn't appear in any Lego catalog?!) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Okay, Brickset might be useful. Space has many pages. Otherwise, Bricklink might help, if you backtrack by finding a part that was in the set and then finding out where it appeared in the right colours. After a quick browse, I cannot find a match, but Classic Space was before my time, so a set that I dismiss may be the one you are looking for. Hope you can ID it! Quote
NathanR Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 You might find the brick link catalogue a little easier to browse: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&catString=34.314&catType=S&v=2 I'm also not a classic space expert, but maybe 6928 would be a good match for your description? lnong Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 Hmm..it's not that one. I did check bricklink and a couple of similar sites but haven't found it..will keep looking... Quote
lnong Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 Nope, it has wheels like the Surface explorer Quote
1963maniac Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I'd recommend you go to bricklink, Click on sets, go to space, clock on Classic Space. There are two pages. If you don't find it there, try a different Space subcategory. You should be able to find it that way. Or you can set the search criteria for the year and find it that way. Or,... If you see a set with some of the same parts as your set, click on it and then it's inventory. Then when you see the same part that is in your set, click on the part number. On that part's page click in the upper right corner- click on "item appears in?? sets". You should find your set there. Quote
danth Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I can tell you with certainty there is no gray 80s Lego Space set with 6 or 8 arms. Either it wasn't Space (Technic maybe?), or it wasn't Lego (Tyco Super Blocks?), or it wasn't 80s. Or some other detail is wrong. Insectoids had some sets with 4-6 legs but that was late 90's. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 So, Bricker might help. It is a good database of sets from other brands, so you may have some luck here. It is very easy to get mixed up! My father used to argue that LEGO sets had individual roof tiles in the 70s, until I found the BettaBuilder set he was talking about Quote
