I remember I hv read it somewhere sometimes ago that lego has a (unspoken?/ unwritten?) policy of not having a military theme... can anyone elaborate why? do you agree with that?

I just wonder how this company policy came into shape. Could it be because Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen doesn't like it? no offence to him to be honest ;) i just wonder where the bus stop lies...

there are so many military toys out there n they are forever popular with kids, esp boys, i just wonder what are main reasons lego doesn't go into that market... given that the TLC has been in the red for yrs... and a military theme is a safe bet... there has to be some v v profound reasons why they decided not to succumb to the 'dark side"...

i hv seen some v v impressive MOC military sets n i reckon if lego sells something like that they will be sold in next to no time.... i am sure many of you hv seen the following... but for the sake of this thread I hv included them here:

http://www.mechanizedbrick.com/

(this is my favorite: http://www.mechanizedbrick.com/T74.html )

mind you the latest dino line has some serious weaponry in it... just look at the tank and machine guns.... i especailly adore the helicopter.... rocket launchers, machine guns, auto gun that can rotate at the front... it has the whole package.... even i am not a big fan of the dino series.... i want to get the helicopter at least...

btw this topic by no mean is lobbying for the introduction of military lego.... if they think it's socially responsible to not to hv it, then so be it ;)

The TLC has made enough sets that are good enough for me to be crazy about...

love you always Lego *wub*

Well MegaBloks has military sets! But nevermind them.

Come on LEGO... Just look at Star Wars... Half those sets are essentially a military based, but because its science fiction, its ok to make them?

Every Lego Town needs a national guard unit or at least a heavly armed SWAT team. I mean come on Lego, kids go into toy stores and do you know what attracts their attention, the Blue Angels Megablocks kit or the Megablocks battleship, now these sets are complete trash but they do not know that! and Megablocks is raking in the cash. I sometimes break down and buy one or two small sets for the Lego size M-16's. Please lego, make a military theme. It would sell a lot in the US. I do not know about Europe but the want for Military Lego in the US is huge.

I wouldn't mind a small military base with real military uniforms and helmets !!!! a small tank, a Hewy helicopter, a jeep and a bike (all that dark military green) !!!!

That would be sweet !! Camouflage all the way !!!!!!

However, we need some "real" town sets !!!! I mean we have lots of policemen, firemen, workers and in the near future medical dudes BUT no buildings, restaurants, people/buildings to protect and save...

heck, they don't even have to include weapons (we could make our own) they could make a set like "boot camp" and just have alot of guys in uniform, a barracks, and a training course!

i my self would love to have a military theme i have made a tank from daniel siskinds instrucions and i have always loved miliary mocs especially the ones made by Bryce rollins (you may have seen his mocs on brickshelf) anyways i think it would be really cool if lego made a military theme

Given the general anti-war sentiment in several countries, I think its still a safe bet we won't see anything quite like that anytime soon. To speak in broad generalizations, a lot of the people who can afford to buy lots of lego's for their kids also have a distinct dislike for violent toys. Given that in the last two years I've seen at least one picket line at Toys R Us about war toys, I can't say that LEgo is all together making a mistake.

Well, if they came up with something like this, this or this then maybe I'd buy some sets ;)

Wow, those MOCs are amazing. However, I don't think TLC will release something as big as those, that would be too expensive for children and most of AFOL too.

Wars is bad mmmmkay... Don't make your mini-figures fight each other....

yes but isn't pirates fighting bad too?..could it not be considerd the same?

I think depending on the success of the Dino line this line could make way for a military theme... Finally they already have miniguns and stuff what really is a big difference to a revolver, a speer, a sword or a megaphone blaster.... 8-|

I don't think TLC will ever go with "realistic" lines like US GIs or something like that but they could invent their own nations and armys... I'm pretty sure we will see such stuff within the next ten years...

Moral values have changed since the last decades, almost every kid has virtually killed somebody else and is used to see weapons and crime and war everywhere and everytime. TLC would be silly not to use this potential, especially in this time of financial troubles...

(Though this doesn't mean that I support military toys...)

Slightly off topic...

I have just spent 2 days building the mega-block battleship for my next door neighbough. It looks really good but the instructions were really hard to follow. it looked quite realistic though

843 pieces - i think

Yes. Pirates should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't know why but I found that hilarious.

Well I'd really like a Military theme. Can't have a city without a guard base, right?

I mean that basically every major town has a National Guard Base, Marine Base, Airforce Base, Army base, etc. in or near them.

i think tlc might be a bit cautious about releasing military sets. i think they're very concerned with the respons by the general public in Europe, tlc's main market. nobody cared very much when tlc's competitors started releasing military sets, but most young parents wouldn't be happy with tlc producing military sets. after all, lego is an icon in Europe, the others are just very small, unknown, fish...

i don't think that tlc will produce military sets unless they're in real trouble, after they've tried everything else; i don't think they want to take the risk of bad publicity.

i remember parents complaining about the aggressive minifig heads

i think consumer organisations are just dying to get a big fish like tlc in the media on this subject. "competition is doing the same", is not going to be enough as an official respons, i'm afraid...

as a company producing toys, i guess you'd want to stay away from this as far as possible...

sure, kids are using already existing minifigs and sets to build weapons and stuff, the thing is that that was never officially endorsed by tlc. there's a difference between releasing general sets which are being used by kids to build weapons, and tlc building weapons...

and yes, war is still very much a sensitive matter. we had a memorial day on the subject of the first gas attacks in Ypres during WWI , the day this topic started... i never, ever, want to see a minifig with a gas installation, nor do i ever want to see a toy company suggesting to kids it might be fun to build that with their products, even tho they might not specifically release "a gas set"...

Define a "major" town... That could mean a lot of things... To me anyway...
