jaxxreal Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 (edited) Hi there! Was an observer for quite a long time, and finally decided to participate in the contest to push myself build something finished. A story behind: I have two sets - 42099 and 42068 which is give me less freedom and prevented me from starting this topic earlier, but I decided to give it a shot and make something. So, I decided to build a Mini Cooper b/c I love these cars! DTM version b/c I have not enough parts to build a good interior lol At first I decided that it should be modular to simplify the build. Eg body is detachable from a chasis. In general I build chasis only, then face an issue with lack of details disassemble everything. So this time I decided to start with a body. Features: HOG steering Fake engine RWD with differential Openable hood & trunk Modular design: a body is detachable from a chasis using 4 pins. The chasis may be split out into 2 parts using 4 pins Dimensions: Length: 31 studs Height: 11 studs Width: 15 studs Then I created a chasis and put a body on... Chasis design was borrowed from 42093 Now it looks like this: Still lot things to build, so I'll keep you posted. Edited April 26, 2020 by jaxxreal Quote
deraven Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Looking great so far! It may be a "poor man's" version, but I'd drive it. Looking forward to seeing what more gets added. Quote
Jurss Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Looks interesting. Was there really mini in DTM? Quote
amorti Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Maybe it could be engine swapped to a hayabusa motor in the boot. Would simplify things a fair bit! Quote

I dug deeper and realized that DTM stands for Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and there is no Mini at all, my bad :( But then I search more, I found out that images that I used for inspiration came from Mini Challenge UK! So have to rename the topic On 4/25/2020 at 9:30 AM, amorti said: Maybe it could be engine swapped to a hayabusa motor in the boot. Would simplify things a fair bit! Oh wow, I searched a bit and it feels like a good inspiration for the next model! Thanks, that would be really interesting to build! Quote
jaxxreal Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 Made some progress over past couple of days: Front view is more recognizable now: Fake engine under openable hood: Work on some interior - fake steering wheel, driver's sit and gearbox shifter. And exterior as well - non-openable doors, side mirrors. Also, made the body lower and dense. Made a measurements: 31 length x 11 height and 15 width. Side mirrors protrude a bit - but it's allowed, right? Made a HOG steering. As a result of body work, a rear diffuser may be seeing too. Feature since the very beginning is openable trunk: A random photo: As I declared in the beginning the body is detachable and there are photos how it looks: Chassis work: Near terms plan: Made body color more consistent Have a better design for HOG steering, I dislike how it looks now Quote

jaxxreal Posted May 16, 2020 Author Posted May 16, 2020 I'm back! After many iterations, I think that's a final version of this MOC. What we have now: 1. Rear independent suspension. I threw out differential since there are no parts moving by wheels. And engine is virtual? Or fake? Not sure, what word should I use. 2. Working steering wheel and no HOG. Actually, that was a real pain for me to build this part. Hardest thing ever. Before final version there were 3 awful prototypes. And unfortunately final version is not perfect. Tires are wide and there is not space to transform power applied to steering wheel properly, so driver has to be a pretty strong person, lmao. 3. Interior improvements. Photos describe it better ? 4. Body reworked. Now it more coupled with the chassis and more solid, more playable. Yay! Found this pic interesting: Quote
