[MOC] Black Monarch's Return

Hi everyone,

 

After a short period of war, the Black Knights have returned to the western border close to the forest where the forestmen live.

A group continu to march to the outpost not that far ahead.

Nice throwback to the Black Monarchs.  I like the buildings and the red roofs.  The buildings a nice and sleek.  Your group of knights is great love the old figs.

I wanted to maintain the style of the Black Knights.

The only change was the roofs are dark red instead of red.

Very well done.  I love the homage to the old classic style.  Reminds me a lot of the Black Monarch's Castle.  The brickbuilt grey on the black looks great, and the tree is very nice (I can't remember who made those originally, but I think they were around here).  Nice job!

I like the way you've captured the spirit of the classic theme. The brickwork on the sides in particular looks excellent.

However, if I had one critique... the roofs feel almost too smooth? It can be tempting to go for a studless look, or to opt for sloped tiles instead of the textured, stepped slope provided by slope pieces, but without any sort of texture to the roof at all besides the vertical slits between the long tiles, it comes out looking kind of plain. Perhaps if you went for more of a shingled look by layering shorter tiles, or even parts like 1x1 quarter circle tiles, it might improve the look. Of course, that's just my personal preference—obviously it's your MOC and your choice.

@Grover, I know there is a tutorial of someone to build that kind of trees. I made this by using a few Castle Wheels and a lot of clips.

@Lyichir, I think that you're right about the roof. It is way to smooth.

I like how you maintain the Black Knights style in your builds.

I love to see classic factions in new building technics.

I am LEGO Classic fan. I like to make old sets as they were Black Knights sets.
