Hello, I've almost finished my previous car VW Beetle for the contest but I thought it was too easy so I started building something more challenging. It's inspired by 9398 off roader.

It already has

  • 2 live axles
  • front axle with steering (I have to skip double steering to add engine instead)
  • HoG on the roof
  • working V8 engine
  • deatachable body
  • 4x4 drive

And yes, it's squeezed in 15L :pir-grin:

So, I think it would be more interesting build than previous one ;)

Oh, a cute little baby-9398  On a serious note, it is impressive how similar it is to the grownup 9398.

After your Beetle, I expected one Mini Cooper when reading mini XXXX :classic:

However, you definitively need all-wheel steering!

Very well done, I like the proportions of this car more than the original, it looks more realistic.

But, TBH I am not a fan of that rear engine. :sadnew:

This is beautiful. Maybe I don't like the rear engine but it adds to the functions. Well done and possibly my favorite while 9398 brought me out of my dark age ...

Hehe I dig this. I'd love a video on the functions

I'm glad you like it! I think short gifs can tell more than words ;)

Thanks! I tried to match it as close as I can. Also unfortunately my 9398 is dissasembled and I can't take picture of these two together...

As long engine is not in front, it doesn't count

All wheel steering is possible but not really important for me, my kid love when this pistons move and making noise. I'm not a big fan too but it will stay.

Lol, this is pretty nice baby 9398 :) You can try to make baby boss crawler on this chassis

I can do LDD if you like to try, my wife already said that I did two cars instead of one :purrr:

yeah, also mine 9398 was one of first sets after dark ages

update time!

I have reworked front, roof, back and couple other stuff. Body is hold by 2 pins and it's braced enough to survive 3,5yo kid so mission passed.

Seats are ready to put minifigs.

Yes, 3x3 L liftarms on the seats will be red in the nearest future. Yes, gap in the hood will be filled too.

Oh lawd that’s beautiful

I know this would stray from 9398, but how would replacing those two 6L links with a single panhard rod go? Technically speaking that suspension only works because of slack in the system

Yeah, there was a version with panhard rod but it took too much space so I kept 6L links. I did lot of compromises there to make it look similar to 9398 and working in such tight space. I'll do free digital file so anyone see all the stuff going on there.

And yes, it work because of slack :pir-grin:

Ok, I think it's finished. (I have forgot to replace 12L axle to 10L in fake engine shaft but I noticed it just before posting pics)
