sirslayer Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Porsche 959 by victormendoza_jr, on Flickr The Porsche 959 is the one of the first production cars to break the 200 mph mark and it was a technic wonder during the 1980's and I believe it's Porsche best super car ever!! I'll try to design a mini scale version with AWD and suspension , at least I have experience with mini models and have done AWD with suspension on the Corvette's scale and now ill try to squeeze all those features into the 959 body.. Jurss Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Good start. I think there will be more porsches. I like that idea with rear view mirror. I see that implementation first time. Quote
sirslayer Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) @Jurss Thank you and I wouldn't be surprised if everyone used the color orange!! but at this scale only light azure, red , orange and white are only available if you're planning to use those fenders.. it will be based of of this chassis but modified with a Porsche engine in the rear!! MinusAndy Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Love this! It’s the only Porsche I’d be interested in building these days. Quote
Seasider Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) Wow ... if you get that to work would you share / sell instructions at a later date? I’m thinking desk model for work (when I get back there) Curious how you’re going to do the Flat engine Edited March 30, 2020 by Seasider Quote

Jundis Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) The rear wheels were also steered in the 959 *edit: The first body version with the panels as spoiler looks better imho :-) Edited March 30, 2020 by Jundis Quote
sirslayer Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) I didn't know about the rear wheel steering?? I was watching this video .. its a cool 959 video ... Edited March 30, 2020 by sirslayer Quote
Jundis Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Hmm strange, I was really sure about this, as I read an article years ago mention this feature explicitely. But when looking at the rear axle, a steering rod is missing... Quote
Vectormatic Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Im absolutely loving this competition, if it werent for already having a gizaljon other things to do, id give it a try too. Your porsche looks very good, instantly recognizable just from the basic layout of the arches, roofline and rear Quote
1gor Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 White looks better, but if you use boxer or flat 6 mini engine (with axles instead of technic pistons) you'll need springs to make engine "work" (if you do not want to loose piston or two or...) @Seasider is a car expert, so I want to ask one thing (if my memory is not lost); 959 had air cooled engine block and (valve) heads cooled with oil? Quote
nahpets Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 I agree the white one looks the best so far with that spoiler design Quote
deraven Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Looking good. Really nice shaping so far. Ditto on the design for the white version looking best. Some clever design choices already, so looking forward to seeing how this progresses! Quote

Maybe that is because the car in picture is not standard 959, that is Group B concept, which was made some 3 years before 959 went in to production. At least bodywork and wheel rims are from that concept. Quote

Thanks @I_Igor I’m not actually that hot on engines, body structures and crash/impact performance are my things. But I do know a bit about the 959 as it’s a fantastic beast and one of the few Porsches I’d love to own. I was even fortunate enough to go to the Porsche museum at the time they had a 959 exhibition with the original aero car and the motorshow concept car. You were almost right, the block is air cooled but the head is water cooled. Quote

At least not as separate part so it can be used legally. I have done this excerside, to make "working" boxer engine. Was not succsessfull. That doesn't mean, that there is no solution. I tried to use rubber band, so that it could hold back those pistons, but it is not satisfying solution. Another issue, is that that "smaller" engine becomes for this contest scale almost too wide. Of course, depends on how crankshaft is made, what is used for pistons. Quote
Jim Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Hi @sirslayer, I absolutely love your MOC!! However, I am concerned that this is not a new MOC. The rules dictate that we all build something new and never shown before. Are you sure this meets the regulations? Edit: I see your pics have been posted on Flickr before the start of the contest. sirslayer Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 @JimThe posted pictures of the models are 3 different models I never finished and 2 of the 959 are only 13 wide and the monster motorized chassis is the 15 wide truck. i've posted in the last month I just combined the 3 models and I came up with this brand new 15 stud wide chassis for this contest.. it is 2 studs wider then the early post and here is the new 2.0 Porsche 959 !!! 959 by victormendoza_jr, on Flickr Quote
sirslayer Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 New 2.0 chassis under view ... I think i need to shrink down the fake engine !!! Lego Technic 2.0 959 by victormendoza_jr, on Flickr Quote
1gor Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 To shrink fake engine you can use thin liftarms...but I welcome choosing proper Lego fake engine Quote
sirslayer Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 @I_Igor.. OK, Ill save the engine.. ill redesign the rear tail/spoiler so I can fit the motor.. in scale its a Big Block flat 6!!! 10.0 liters engine!! est. power 1000 Hp !!! Quote

Thirdwigg Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 @steph77 had a good little idea for a mini flat engine. Take a look here, and see if it can be helpful. Quote

I will allow it for this contest, since I don't want to be as strict as usual. However, please bear in mind that this is an example of something that would NOT be allowed in future contests. Contests are about building something new, and not getting something of the shelf which you have been working on for a while. I know it's hard to enforce, but that's why I added the rule (if you have shown it somewhere before the start of the contest, it's not allowed). I know you model is not exactly the same, but it's clearly based on something you have been working on. So go ahead, have fun, but be aware that I will not allow this in a future contest. Quote
