1980SomethingSpaceGuy Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Last weekend, I was working on a simple, robust track prototype and thought it would be nice to embed the motor inside: Two of those were roughly assembled to just a battery box and my kids saw this lying around. They wanted to "try the tracks!". So things escalated a bit... The tracks are a bit loose, but never enough to skip, which in the end works quite well. The springs do their job feeding the propulsion wheel with the right tension so I guess after the quite intensive stress test the went through, the initial design is proven valid! The twin vehicles are dead simple but are a lot of fun, they work well on any kind of flat surface. They're by design much slower than 42095, since my kids are 5 and 2.5 y.o. But they're also lighter and more stable. Altogether, they were a blast for a one day build! Quote

Aleh Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 This solution may be VERY useful for models with detachable tracks like crawler cranes. Because it (solution) let avoid layering a torque to tracks from motors installed in chassis. Quote

And in the process optimize space. Also, in this prototype, the tracks are loose on the ground between the wheels, which kind of defeats the purpose of maximizing ground contact surface, but this could be addressed. Quote

The battery levels, the blanket, the ground clearance of these quick builds, none of these were optimal. But our fun was! Quote
Parazels Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) This is a very good solution, that lets you save valuable space inside chassis, if you use the simplest control scheme. In theory you can even use the solution for subtractor mechanism! Edited March 19, 2020 by Parazels Quote
