I went with the naked stack instead of the smoke lifter - not because the lifter was any trouble - but because it effectively hides the Crosti stack... which is sort of self-defeating.

This looks really awesome, I love the look of the unusual boiler at the front end, especially without those smoke lifters! (I also never knew that a 9F ever went without those devices, so I learned something today.) Are you planning on building it in real life?

And, at some point, yes. This would join the queue behind the BoB 4-6-2 and the NYC J3 4-6-4... but it's definitely on my to-do list when funding is available. I think it turned out pretty darned good, and they're really neat locomotives IRL (even if the Crosti boilers are long gone). 

The idea of a 2-10-0 that actually hauled passengers for ferry trains - including named trains - is fascinating to me.

I'd use Big Ben's Large, I think? Whichever ones are the same size as the rims on the stock Lego wheels.

I was never particularly happy with this project, so I decided to completely redo it. And that's not 'rework the boiler,' or 'rebuild up from the frame' redo, but completely starting over. Still, it's not really enough to justify a new thread, so here's the rebuild hidden away where few will see it :P. 

The engine is now designed around LL-sized drivers (which is why the wheels look a bit small - they're just stand-ins), whereas the original was inappropriately upsized to accommodate XL wheels. The tender was also completely rebuilt, and is - I think - a lot closer to the source material. I actually started this wanting to do the normal boiler, but I just can't figure out a method to do good smoke lifters without them looking way too chunky. And while I realize that most people just bite the bullet and go with oversized lifters, I cannot force myself to cave in this instance, so a Crosti it remains.

This is gorgeous. I love the angled cylinders and the trans slope SNOT for the cabin. I think the rebuilt tender is gorgeous too - the addition of the upward curves really makes all the difference.
