[MOC] Liebherr R 980 Excavator 1:25 motorized

Hello Everybody

Im happy to introduce you my Liebherr R 980 excavator scalemodel 1:25. The whole excavator is fully motorized with power functions. The goal was to combine the motorized technic world with the usual lego bricks. Was not that easy because of the weight. This beauty will be for ever with me, thats why i also builded up a box as you can see on the pictures.

Very good looking excavator, very detailed!

It also works very well. Why didn't you built simulated joysticks as remote control? I think it would be easier to control it as a real excavator.

The only thing I would change are the tracks, these ones look too thin.

Thank you! Sawry, but what do you mean with "simulated joysticks"...? I only used the Power Functions...or do you mean the big remote box from lego?

Yeah the Tracks are a little bit thin, but sometimes they use those. 50cm in Scale 1:25 = 2cm. But yeah, i know what you mean.. ;-)

You can use regular PF remote but control it in different way, like a joystick. Watch at this video for example

Do the motors suffer because of the weight of the boom?

The only "complaint" about the clean design would be the ladders on the lower carriage... In my opinion, they are a bit bulky

Yeah, the motors are on the limit if you ask me. You can see it in the video when i pull up the mainboom. But i can live with it. Lets see how long the motors will live.

Thank you Sir. Ahhhm to be honest, not that really strong. At the end its a Display Model, im glad that the functions work, but i will not use the excavator for serious tasks. ;-)

haha, thank you. i think the people like the container more than the excavator, but its ok for me. :-D

Box is impressive, excavator is very cool, I love this massive brick-built arm. Things like undercarriage look too thin and not proportional compared to the rest. I think wider tracks could improve overall look. All in all great job! Looking forward to more stuff like this!

Thanx a lot. :-) Yeah youre not the first who said something like this about the tracks. :-D 

50cm is the thinnest track they use on the R 980, in Scale 1:25 = 2cm. But i know what you mean, they really look TOO thin. But i like that more than when they look too wide. Dont ask me why.
