TheLegoDr Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 The interest has died down a little bit around this building, so I decided to build my own. A lot of people were posting their versions and while plenty were admirable, I wanted to go a different route. I did buy the official set, but didn't use too much from it outside of the main large window. I poured over movie stills to try to capture as many details as I could. It isn't perfect, but it fits into my layout pretty nicely. This build took a few weeks, not counting wait time for bricklink orders. Thankfully I only had to order a bunch of sand green tiles and some medium nougat pieces for the back. I like having my builds the same color all the way around, even if you don't see it. Unfortunately, I never took pictures of the back. Main view - One thing I've noticed in most MOCs, they are missing the upside down curve on the top row of gray. So I knew I had to have that in there. Most are also missing the stairwell/build on the roof. And oddly enough a lot are missing trees out front. Angled view - I don't love the jagged effect on the corner, but I don't know of any way to make it smoother in such a low profile area. It only has a one plate thick backing down the middle, otherwise it hits the sides. Side view - Added some masonry bricks to break up the color scheme a bit. Adds some age to it, I think. Close-up of the roofing - This is a truncated version of the real thing, but I tried adding in some roof details to make it feel more realistic. Most MOCs omit roof details. Thanks for looking. I hope everyone enjoys what they see. I know it is probably late to the party, but I don't like jumping on the bandwagon, so I waited until the hype died down before I even started building. Quote
Vindicare Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 This looks fantastic. It certainly resembles the movie building a lot. The angled bit is a great touch. Anytime is a good time for MOCs such as this. Well done. Quote
fordtruckin Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 This building could easily fit right in with the Modulars. Very well executed. Quote
Tariq j Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 That looks really good. I like the use of the LotR Rings door handles. Quote
Lucarex Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Very nice MOC. Yes the clunky corner roof looks off and isn’t a perfect solution, but it’s a tough problem to solve. Interior pics? Edited December 5, 2019 by Lucarex Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Thanks for the kind words. I like building modular buildings, so I wanted to have this fit into my city (or our LUG layout). Technically the "real" building has another angled corner on the other side, but I wanted to make it a true corner and fit alongside any other building I would happen to put there. I do have a small interior, but I oddly enough never took pictures of it. I have stairs and a SNOTted rug on the main floor. I gave up doing upper floor interiors. So if I ever get around to taking a picture of the interior, I will either update it here (unless too much time has gone by) or otherwise I will put it in the folder on my flickr. I really like the nougat and sand green combo. It stands out among other buildings. I really need to update my signature line. Those modulars are from 7 years ago when I had less skill/fewer pieces. Haha Quote

Haha I agree completely with those two colors pairing well together. It’s why the WV train station is my favorite of the bunch. Quote
