I made the 850 set a few years ago when I found the instruction sheet, 1977 is as classic as it's gets, older then myself.

Sweet! :)

Instructions for some of the older sets are available on the LEGO website. The 8480 Space Shuttle and 8880 Supercar for example.

I actually did mean I found the paper instructions in the house so that makes it even more classic for me.

I got that. No instructions for sets from the 80's and earlier are available through www.lego.com. Just thought what I wrote might be helpful to someone. :)

Oh yeah, online instructions certainly are good, since I've had some old sets where the instructions weren't so fortunate to survive.

Also there are great resources online to identify parts/sets.

I think of it as a retro thing.

Back then studded LEGO was the best and now we have something I personally find better but I'll occasionally revisit the old style.

Back then the first mario was the best game and now we have games I personally find better but I'll occasionally revisit the old ones.

Back then vinyl records were the best and now we have something I personally find better but I'll occasionally I listen to an old record.

There will always be a love for retro because many people are nostalgic, and I think that is the place studded LEGO resides.

I have tons of old Technic sets from the early 80s through to the 90s but they're hard to identify due to the shared element assortment and rather open ended builds.

I do have the 1985 Go Kart to repair so that might be to tonights job.
